want some cheese with that whine?
They Disgust me as thay should ALL Americans!! They being the so-called black leaders who are crying about those prople stuck in New Orleans. Yes, they are so concerned that they rally out of their posh offices and into another posh room in front of a bunch of vultures who have nothing better to do than beam such racist crap all over the air waves. This isn't about being black or poor. this is about America being hurt and ravaged by mother nature. Oh, maybe that is it. Mother nature is racist and really only meant to destroy and kill the poor and black.
Yep, even the poor black lady that said the superdome was like being in slave quarters. Maybe even she would rather have been on the street somewhere. Ungrateful people. Be praising someone that you survived you pathetic whiner!
This is something in the magnitude never seen here. So just how do the all knowing, perfect leaders of the black and poor in this country think things should have gone? As one of the National Guardsmen that made it there said to a news person criticizing the slowness of the response...
are you people stuck on stupid....how long did it take you to get here?
Oh yeah, the leaders should be asking for an investigation into the many murders already discovered and the looting and the gunshots aimed at those trying to help.
These leaders would rather start their normal divisive crap instead of helping the people in need. So I say shut up and do something.
One of the biggest problems I see is that generation after generation of the poor and black have been almost completely taken care of by the government. To the point that they no longer know or even attempt to do for themselves. At what point does the government tell these people that "we have faith enough in you to allow you to become the providers of your own life and future".
Become real men and women and quit expecting us and the rest of the citizens take care of your needs. Think, react and succeed. Do not let these sorry people who should not even be in positions tey are in, continue to hold you down. I also ask that they should resign or be forced out of office for the hatred causing trash thay are speaking at this time of national sorrow and needs.

Are you serious?
She was describing the conditions of her stay which, by reading, does not seem sanitary nor safe. Toliets backed up and reeking, trash littered everywhere, lights out in some bathrooms, being bypassed by the Hyatt guests and employees... they were given priority, limited water and food supplies, 125 degrees in the middle of the crowd, people passing out left and right, fevers and rashes... I am sure that she is grateful to be alive, but for comparing her stay to what she assumes slave quarters must have been like, she is branded a 'pathetic whiner'?
Wow.
I question why she would think to compare it to "slave quarters". Too many people are quick to throw the race card in. When the city flooded, naturally the Superdome's conditions deteriorated. Come on, do you think the people in charge flooded it on purpose?
Watch the news (Fox has great coverage.) They have been bussing people and even using the airport to fly people out. With that many people, it is going to take time. Did the MAYOR and GOVERNOR have a good plan? Evidently not. Will they have a better plan the next time? Let's hope so.
It could be because of her limited exposure to references that could equitably describe her conditions, other than the instance she sited. This makes her a 'pathetic whiner'?
It seems some are quick to assume that she was perpetrating and perpetuating this 'race card' reasoning without any intimate knowledge of her other than a soundbite.
I doubt that her intention was to make a political statement when she was probably on the verge of starvation and dehydration, but I don't know her personally. Neither do any of you.
well spoken, shannoneileen.
White folks are a tad sensitive to being called racist or to black folks playing that card. Even if the african americans do not intend to play that card themselves, others will play it for them, and it is a very overplayed and tired out card that detracts from the real message.
The gov't of NOLA blew this.
The gov't of LA blew this.
The gov't of the US blew this.
We'll find out why, at least at the federal level. I WANT to know why it took the US Gov;t 96 hours to get its' head out of its' collective a$$ and starting moving in. I am TIRED of waiting to be asked when help is needed. Just go in an help and let the damn accountants and the lawyers clean up after as is their job.
Help the people and get permission later.
This is why I said on another thread, that it is the institution, not the individual, that spawn the complaints.
On the one hand, White people do not wish to be labeled racist. On the other hand, Black people feel that they have grievances they wish to express.
People talking *at* each other instead of *to* one another. At the end of the day... hostility.
A classic breakdown of communication. My question is, who benefits while we're all at each other's throats?
They stayed when a catagory 5 hurricane was coming straight for them. they should have left like the majority of people did. Now that they didn't get their free hand out in a timly manner, oh I know let's blame the white man. The news interviewed an naacp atty he said " if it were white people that were stuck in NO and the blacks got out I wouldn't be here talking to you" No S&*T! it took how many years of law school to figure that out? Why does it have to be a white versus black thing. If you are elderly or have some type of medical condition I understand why you stayed, but anyone else who stayed is an idiot plain and simple. Catagory 5 hurricane winds sustained at 160-175 mph, gusts past 200 mph need I say more? we all live on the coast. Would you have honestly stayed?
I did make it a rich vs poor thing.
Barack Obama echoed these sentiments if you are looking for a black leader who does not feel race was the most important factor in the failure to evacuate the people of New Orleans. He said that it was classism.
Representatives of all races stayed in NO, as well as Mississippi--- by choice or by lack of choice--- NO is overwhelmingly black and poor. Stating the obvious does not make it a black vs white thing. Frankly, I'm tired of the us vs them attitude, anyway. We are all American citizens.
If most were living paycheck to paycheck, did it ever occur to you that some may not have received their paychecks yet? Some people in America have limited choices.
I don't equate helping those who have lost everything with free handout. Sorry. I just don't.
No, I would not chose to stay here if a catagory 5 hurricane hit, but I must say that although my means are not extremely plentiful, I do have the means to leave. That, to me, is a blessing.
You say you didn't make it a black vs white thing. You say you made it a rich vs poor thing, but no where and I mean no where in your previous blogs(posts) did you mention economic status. You did however, mention whites and blacks and racism a lot.The majority of the people (over 3/4) that stayed where black not white according to numerous news reporting agencies. Make no mistake when people stayed it was by choice only. No one was forced to stay. we all make our own choices in life for everything we do. Is it by choice that people chose to sit on their fat a$$ and refuse to work because a free check from the gov't is better? YES! there is no lack of choice here. You can try and make it sound anyway you want, but the majority knows better. I am well aware of people possibly not being paid, but when hurricane season comes you need to prepare, and with that preperation comes some sort of savings along with necessities(dry food, water). their lack of preperation does not make their situation emergent for me. Don't get me wrong I feel sorry for everyone involved, and I have given my hard earned money to help those in need over there.
As you stated some people have limited choices and I agree, but with limited choices also comes with a personal responsibility for yourself and your actions. I nor is anyone else reponsible for others actions or lack of preparation. I do not EXPECT the american people to help me or my family, but if you watched the news you would have seen those people complaining that Americans where not there and offering aid fast enough because they were expecting it to be handed to them like everything else. I did not make this a race issue the people in NO made it a race issue everytime a news camera was in front of them. I for one am sick and tired of hearing why everything isn't going their way is because of the color of their skin. Something else to think about.. the native americans have been and still to this day treated a million times worse, and either we don't hear from them or we don't care, because their voice isn't loud enough to notice.
"You say you made it a rich vs poor thing, but no where and I mean no where in your previous blogs(posts) did you mention economic status. "
You sure about that?
If anything, since posting on this weblog, classism (or socialism, lol) have been what the majority of my posts have been about. If you're speaking of this particular thread, that might be so, because I was responding to someone who made this a black vs white issue.
I couldn't get beyond this first statement that you have made because it is untrue. I've read what you have written in another thread, as a matter of fact, I've posted several times in that one as well. Care to re-read them before assuming my position has been racially motivated and or slanted?
I don't care what your position is. If you want to defend yourself then cut and paste a portion of where in this thread that you said it's an economic thing. I am not trying to make this a personal attack on you. I don't know you nor do I care to know you. You wrote what you feel and so did I. We obviously have a difference of opinion. My reading and comprehension skills are fine, therefore I don't need to re-read what you wrote.
We agree, as I care not what your position is either. You addressed me by posting after my comment and I responded in kind. It's done as far as I am concerned.
What a stimulating conversation here. May anyone join?
