Team Jack-Day 6 with trainer.

It was all business this morning. I have maintained my cardio workouts of jogging 20 to 35 minutes twice a day on the tread mill. This has helped get me in better shape. I can focus on increasing the intensity of my workouts. I have increased reps and weight on every station this morning. It is a great feeling to focus on a certain muscle until it can't push any more and still have a lot of energy left for the next one. When I first started with Steve I was struggling to get through a session with out dying; now he works me hard and I can still get my cardio workout in right afterwards. I am sure that will change when he reads this. Thanks for everybody's support! I want you to know that you were my inspiration on Monday evening. I brought my gym clothes to work but as the day moved on, being a Monday and all, my inner voice started telling me I was too tired to go to the gym. At 5:00, I heard another "little" voice tell me that if Jack can get motivated to go to the gym, I should follow suit so......I went spinning and felt great afterwards. Thanks Jack and keep up the hard work!! E

OK. You two have me feeling guilty. I brought my gym clothes to work today with every intention of working out this afternoon, but I locked my keys in my car this afternoon (dumb blonde). Jack came to my rescue by picking me up and taking me home. Unfortunately I don't have a spare key and will have to wait until hubby gets home from work before I can pick up my car and my gym bag!! Does this count as a valid excuse not to go to the gym today???

No, or you wouldn't be feeling guilty. Don't worry though, each excuse gets easier.

Voice of experience?

Posted by sherilittle1 - Wed, 2006-02-15 17:11

Yes, I worked out a couple of hours and ran a couple of miles each day until I was in my mid nineties. At that point I just didn't have the "extra time" that was necessary so I cut back to an hour work out and one mile each day. I have been on that regiment for several years now. The hardest part of working out consistently is walking through the door. But you already knew that and more...much more.

Am I reading that correctily? Wow! I'm impressed. Not only do you work out more than most young people I know, but you've got one of the sharpest and most open minds on this blog! What's your secret?

I love your compliments. I'm not sure that I have very many secrets, at least that I can remember. As far as the open mind, it probably came from a lobotomy or lobectomy that people said I had many years ago. I don't remember it though. Whatever the case, it seems to be the only plausible explanation for my "opened" mind.

Another reason for this open mind perspective could be that we all seem to take ourselves too seriously sometimes. E.O. Wilson has written that the total biomass of humans, even after our recent population explosion , is only a fraction of a fraction of a percent of one ten-billionth of the mass of the planet and that our brains are only one-fiftieth of that. That statement kinda puts things in perspective.

I recently read a study by Nancy Bermeo, "Ordinary People in Extraordinary Times," in which she examines fallen democracies since world war I. It is a revealing and surprising study, but it also led me to wonder if a democracy could ever fall if everyone in it had a good sense of humor. I was thinking about it yesterday while using a dorsi bar to do tricep extensions. Good health to you!

You are amazing! I think Jack (and especially I) have been further challenged to a higher fitness level. Thanks, Shawdws!!! You are inspiring. :)
