Commission sticks with jail time as historic district penalty in Port Royal

The penalties for violating the Port Royal historic district's rules should remain unchanged, according to an unanimous recommendation by the Historic Preservation Commission to the Town Council. Read the story here.

This is ridiculous - jail time for violation of "historic" regulations?

Gimme a break.

What's even more ridiculous is that the council asked the commission to review the proposed penalties and they come back with an all-but-indignant reply . . . as if to say "you're questioning our judgment?".

If anybody has ever had the pleasure of observing the proceedings in the Port Royal Magistrate's kangaroo court you know what is about to happen.

Keep in mind that this historic district is not even supported by the majority of the people in Port Royal . . . it has the support of a small number of people with special interest who, in turn, have the ear of elected officials.

What's next? Jail time if you don't wear the right color or type of shoes?

I think PR should have thought out this ordanance and how it would be enforced before they passed it. I don't fault the penalty of Jail, I fault the fact who will be enforcing it. Putting Port Royals Codes Enforcement in charge is worse than putting Peta in charge of the Animal Shelter.Port Royals Public Safety System and the total lack of oversight over their actions is now even a bigger hazard than before. Between, the moronic hierarchy of the PD and the lack of attention they have about the codes enfrocement unit and their quasi-illegal actions and misuse of power Port Royal is really looking to give away the town in a lawsuit when the Codes Gesatapo harasses, stalkes, victimizes and eventually unlawfully arrest someone for Capitol Tree Removal and shoots them during a stand off with a citizen armed with a tree pruiner and a weedeater. Looking for Trouble, Move to Port Royal,, new Billboard for that special exit in Ohio.

Sorry, Do you work for PR or are you from Ohio? JK, Sometimes I rant, but I always make sense (to myself). Thanks right back at ya....

Actually neither!! Thank goodness for that. I just have a lot of friends over there who have been complaining about this. They just tend to think that PR is out to gain all the money that they can get their hands on. I have heard that the new Codes Enforcement Officer is doing a great job. Another friend of mine had a little problem with some stuff and said that the CEO was very professional, kind, and curtious when he delt with her. Maybe things are looking up...however, she did ask to borrow my scissors...said that she needed to cut her lawn. She was afraid her lawnmower was breaking some sort of ordinance that she didn't know about.
