Goody, goodg, yah. another chicken place. Just what we need, To bad we do not have any fish places. Maybe we can now say "eat lowcounty chicken". As Beaufort surouded be water you would thing we would have more seafood resturants. Beaufort if moving forward keeping up with the times. If you want a nice sit down dinner with waiters and hosts you sill have to go to Hilton Head, Savannah, or Charleston to get this service.
Silvi's and Bateaux are both good, but the options are limited, as you said. Saltus is also not bad.
I see on Savannah TV where Popeye's is promoting fantail shrimp with sides for 4.99. Never eaten there, but it is an alternative for fast food places.
Actually if I want good fresh shrimp, it's hard to beat Shrimp Shack. Onion rings are great, too. Can't afford those high meal prices often, though.
If you don't mind driving, Courtney Bay in Yemassee and Squat & Gobble in Bluffton has a good seaford plate for about 9 bucks.
Anybody tried The Steamer lately? I see cars there all the time.
I believe I saw a karaoke sign out front.

Karaoke is every Tuesday night at Steamers Pub, next door to Steamers Restaurant. The pub is seperate from the restaurant, but you can still order food from the menu at the pub.
A good local seafood restaurant is Boondock's - Hwy 21 & Seaside Road. If you want to go to Hilton Head, then try the Sea Shack. Both are reasonably priced and the food is excellent.
Brown's chicken is the best fast food chicken.
I would go on a regular basis if it came to Beaufort.
For a town that doesn't like "chains," and has fought to keep them out, they sure do seem to be welcoming more "chains." That makes perfect sense somehow.

Can you give me a list of the chains that the town has fought to keep out???
The only "chain" that I recall being fought against was Starbucks when they wanted to open a shop on the corner of Bay and Carteret. The downtown folks didn't think it would fit in with the Hysteric.. ooops... I mean Historic District.
baldeagle14, there have been many over the years, but the most recent ones that come to mind are Starbucks and Wal-Mart. The anti-chain rhetoric has been quite prevalent on this site for at least a couple of years now. Of course it is only used when it is convenient.....protectionism at its finest.
I like Popeye's chicken, but I'll bet that the folks over at Maryland Fried Chicken aren't exactly thrilled. Competition and an open free-market approach to business is the best way to go. Unfortunately the "free-market" is closed once in a while when it threatens certain people.
Shadows, I have been a full time resident in Beaufort since 1978, not a part timer that only stays here on a part time basis. If there have been many, as you state, name me a few that were denied, other than Starbucks and Wal-Mart, that wanted to build in inappropriate locations.
Maryland Fried Chicken has withstood the competition for many years and is still in business. I don't think Popeyes is going to be a serious threat to them.

In one instance, among many, Arby's negotiated for about ten years before they were allowed to break ground.
MotherNature, thanks for bringing up another one of the numerous examples. There have been roadblocks such as the colors of roofs, signs, etc. that have delayed and/or discouraged other businesses as well. I have personally known individuals that have moved to Beaufort with plans to open businesses such as restaurants and ran into such obviously protectionist type activities and road blocks that they changed their mind and left the area. Some of the businessmen/developers in the area want to control everything.
Isn't a four story building being planned for downtown? Sounds like it will be condominiums. Why not just go to six or eight stories.......and get it over with? Some people have a way of getting things done while others face constant obstacles until they are forced out of business and/or caused to leave the area.
BTW, whatever happened to that developer funded parking structure that was going to be built downtown? With all of the development and progress downtown, certainly the structure will be needed more than ever. Maybe there will be more efforts to get the taxpayers to fund it.
unless you are Dick S.
Outback took awhile due to the color of the roofing. Walgreens in Beaufort, also had a hell of a time getting approved.
Who's "Dick S.?" LOL
Well perhaps we should all pause before leveling too much criticism at him. Based on what I have read about the "Sandbar" and the Water Festival on this site, it doesn't sound like there are very many educated and sober people around town who could otherwise carry on with the development activities.
School? Why go to school if you can get drunk and have so much fun?
I live in Charlotte,NC and have been coming to Beaufort for almost 20 years and have never seen a Popeye Restraunt. I usually have a map of Poeyeye Chicken Restraunts when I travel. Next time down I'll be eating there a couple of times.
Last May to a trip to Florida, I had printed out all the locations to Jacksonville, Florida from Charlotte.I hated it when they closed the Popeyes Restraunt when I went to Cherokee to pay the slots. If you never ate at a Popeye, your missing the Best Chicken. beachwalker 1946 ( metal detectorist ) They need to bring back the onion rings or now called the onion strips.
dude... popeyes? you LOOK for popeyes when you travel? you're missing a huge opportunity to eat at some really great places and experience the local cuisine in not only Beaufort - but everywhere you travel....
Note: - get off the beach and try real metal detecting - this is the heart of the Civil War, ...not only CW, but Revolutionary and Spanish era.... and ya never know what else.
Just what we all need, another fast food joint!!
