Turnout thin at Graham campaign stop

At a sparsely attended campaign event in Beaufort on Friday, Republican U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham promised he would work to solve the nation's immigration problems if reelected and pooh-poohed speculation that Arizona Sen. John McCain would tap him as a presidential running mate. Does anyone recognize our Governor’s Sister, Ms. Sarah Sanford-Rauch?
The highest of endorsements…
Norma Stewart of Sun City Hilton Head said rain in southern Beaufort County probably kept many people home.
She's kidding, right? Did it rain enough anywhere to keep people home?
"And Sun City people, we melt," she joked while miming fear of raindrops.
Then maybe Ms. Stewart can explain the increase in traffic around Sun City when rainstorms cover 278.
In an interview before delivering his stump speech, Graham defended his conservative bona fides -- the target of June 10 Republican primary opponent Buddy Witherspoon -- and said his record speaks for itself on fiscal and social issues.
CONSERVATIVE bona fides? WHAT conservative bona fides? His record speaks for itself, alright. So do his rants about SC citizens being racists.
Gather some licquor boxes, Lindsey. Yer gonna need 'em soon after the next election. Can you say, "Bye-bye?"
Editors and Reporters......
You should be ashamed and resign your posts!! I've been reading every newspaper in the state lately and there was NO Headline....anywhere about this event. NONE. You idiots...no wonder there was a SPARSE turn-out! I would have driven from CHARELSTON!! At least your local restuarant would have made some revenue?! Unbelievable?!!
Editors and Reporters....
What are you afraid of ....a BIG TURN-OUT?? Are you SCARED that BUDDY would show up?? You editors and reporters wouldn't know NEWS if your life depended on it!!
...the Beaufort Gazette is NOT responsible for "Republican U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham's" turn-out. If he had low turn-out, it's his own fault.
It's his own campaign ...remember. I say we blame the low turn-out on Rauch's problems, the Govendevelopnor's problems, and Davis's problems. It could be that people are digusted with the political process. And quite frankly, are not interested in Graham or any of these other jokers. Who would want to spend the evening with Rauch anyway?
If it were Rauch's going away party, I would have attended.
Steve,
Thank you for a post and reply. No personal attack intended. I know my spelling needs work but I'm neither a typist nor reporter. Ha! Anyway..WOW! if you weren't informed until the last minute..NOW..that is NEWS!! This whole process is nuts! How can a candidate expect to get voters to listen ...unless he gives them a heads up of where they are gonna be. Are voters supposed to go on different websites to try and DISCOVER their schedule? Not only that ...be able to submit questions to you, the editors, in the local areas to sift through when deciding what questions to ask for the report. I know my questions aren't the most important in the state; but at least if we know where these cats are going to be in advance we can make arrangements if we feel so compelled. I try to be a republican...but the more I read...I'm a South Carolinian! Thank YOU!
We had a short story of the Friday event in Thursday's paper and followed it up with significant play on this morning's front page. We also posted a reminder of it on our Web site Friday morning.
There are a lot of races in the state right now, and we know Beaufort is going to figure prominently in many of them. We'll provide as much coverage as we can, more when the candidates are in town.
No personal attack intended.
Sorry, apparently I incorrectly interpreted "You idiots...no wonder there was a SPARSE turn-out!" to be a personal attack.
Steve,
Yes...an editor who means business...NO SMILING! Great!

a little smile there, don't let 'em pick on you now... Your pic looks fine
Hey, what does he expect? When he goes and insults the majority of his constituents by calling them bigots because they expect our country's laws to be enforced against illegal foreign nationals can Graham really be surprised if support for his reelection is lackluster?

If this was a free meal maybe more than 30 would have showed up. I don't remember reading what the meal cost was, but a lot of people around Beaufort can't afford admission fees.
It was $5 per person or $10 per family - not a lot of money if you're taking the whole family out to dinner, but you're right, many people won't pay to hear a political speech.
You can get all the political speeches you want right here on the blog....for free, lol.
... Sen. Graham offered a Lowcountry boil for your $5. Here, you're on your own for food.
I happen to be at Beaufort Memorial Wednesday visiting and their cafeteria was closed. But the nurses said the hospital was celebrating 60 years and had a catered free lunch at the Kate Gleason Park. Wow! Great grilled hamburgers and hot dogs and fixin's, slaw, potato salad, fruit medley, and sliced watermelon and drink. And the view and setting at that park is outstanding. And the breeze was blowing to keep the bugs off. I hope they celebrate every year!
I would have attended but I thought it was going to be in Spanish. Ted Keneddy was going to appear with him but it was too close to the water.
