BLUFFTON -- Against the Wild West backdrop of Montana's Grizzly Bar, state Sen. Catherine Ceips and her challenger got into a shootout over whether she has delayed a local developer's appointment to the state Ports Authority for political reasons. Read the story here.

...is nothing more than the Govendevelopnor's own political puppet cronies.
It's about time that someone stood up to Sanfraud and Davis.
Kudos goes to Senator Catherine Ceips and Senator Jake Knotts for calling out corruption on the Ports Authority Board.
Port appointment dominates Senate debate. Ceips stalls appointment!
Stalling the appointment stalls the port deal that would benefit southern beaufort county financially. Ceips is not helping her image with southern beaufort county by playing with this political football. She should be pushing for the appointment since this port board seat represents beaufort county and not the upstate politicos.
While she is at it she should get off her duff and get some of our money back from the state to fund our schools. Might be even slightly productive if she just went back to teaching.
...Wrong. The Govendevelopnor Sanfraud has stalled the "Port Deal" ROYALLY.
As I recall the decision to sell the Port of Port Royal was 2003.
If Sanfraud would keep his grubby greedy little hands out of it then something might get done. However, I really question whether it needs to be sold it the first place.
You know, we may need a Port. Now that's a novel idea, to use a Port as a Port. The Brain Trust in Columbia can't see past their own pocketbook and their money hungry cronies to do ANYTHING for the betterment of Beaufort County or for the State of South Carolina.
You can try to hang this one on Ceips but it's not going to work because all roads lead to Sanfraud.
She is not the one stalling on Robertson and has stated so clearly. She also did in fact get some of that money back from the state. If you must attempt to degrade someone at least know your facts!

Here is some FACTS for you!!
Ceips has character issues and unless you voted for BILL CLINTON, then character does matter. Please google: Catherine Ceips. 3rd one down: The Scarborough Affair........................ :
1.) http://www.charlestoncitypaper.com/gyrobase/Content?oid=oid%3A16045
"There is ample evidence that Scarborough and Ceips have long been engaged in an extramarital affair. This evidence is found in a series of seven sworn affidavits filed last month in Ninth Circuit Family Court by friends, family, and a private investigator on behalf of Mary Ann Middleton Scarborough, the estranged wife of the James Island District 115 representative.
According to a deposition by David C. Leaird, Jr., of Surveillance Technologies, "...during the period of surveillance, it was indisputably established that Mr. Scarborough was romantically involved with a woman, identified as Catherine C. Ceips of 1207 Bay Street, Beaufort, South Carolina."
2.)http://www.charlestoncitypaper.com/gyrobase/Content?oid=oid%3A16051
Now Scarborough's bizarre behavior on the night of July 15 has led to an investigation into other aspects of his life, the report of which appears in this issue of City Paper. Affidavits filed by Scarborough's estranged wife in divorce proceedings at Charleston County Courthouse show the District 115 representative to be having a long-term affair with Rep. Catherine C. Ceips of Beaufort.
This sounds like a bad made-for-television movie, but it gets worse. Scarborough and Ceips both supported the proposed "defense of marriage" amendment to the state constitution.
The truth is that you don't know what the court records show, they are sealed, as well they should be. Divorce is a private matter for all parites concerned. And, divorce is a nasty business, many allegations are typically thrown around. Their is no such thing as a happy divorce. You are nothing but another rumor monger who gossips like a little girl in a school yard.
topguns got it right. Stop acting like a paid rumor monger who gossips like a little girl in the school yard.
And private investigators don't lie? That's funny.
Why we got a PI here in Beaufort that is a known liar. He files affidavits in court all day long. What does that prove?

OK ...I'll agree...
You know 'birds of a feather flock together', right? And Ceips's campaign manager Rod Shealy's(aka attack dog) record speak for itself. Wasn't he convicted of a crime? Or of course, is that not true too..... ? hahahaha
What kind of bird don't fly....?? A jail bird (aka Rod Shealy) !
...I don't recall him ever going to jail. He paid a $500 fine.
so...local29902... you're getting a little carried away.
Your talk about "jail bird (aka Rod Shealy)" is at best a stretch.

was he guilty? yes or no?
Yes !
Tell me why Ceips would want him in her corner. The people around you say alot about your Character.....and Ceips is lacking in that dept.
...he didn't to jail so don't call him a jail-bird.
It's obvious that you are in attack mode.

It's obvious that you are in attack mode.
What Shealy did was unethical and broke the campaign laws. Also, was a slap to all African -Americans. Wrong or right?
Nope, he did not go to jail but paid a fine. But it does say something about his character, correct?
...just get your facts straight.
BTW, the fine he paid was many years ago.
...just get your facts straight.
BTW, the fine he paid was many years ago.
it all goes back to character issues and who you surround yourself with tells alot about a person. true?
make up your mind.
Mr. Sanford and Mr. Davis were both involved with a guy that beat up a woman.
Sanford employed him and Davis was in business with him running some softcore-pornographic website.
So by your judgment, it tells us "alot about a person. true?"
Who associates with a guy that beats up women and runs filthy websites? Not someone I would even want to break bread with.

Character matters and sorry to tell you Ceip doesn't have any! I still can not get anyone to tell me of her great accomplishments for Beaufort County.
Ceips has judgement issues.......bottomeline.
By the way, Ceips can get negative on the campaign trails, I am just waiting for her to send Shealy & Bates into attack mode, again. True?
Tell us how you know so much about Mrs. Ceips character?
You seem to have set yourself up as judge, jury, and executioner on this one.
You must not spend much time in church, cause if you did you wouldn't have such an unchristian attitude about others.

First, do you read the newspaper? Nope, to Judge, Jury & Excutioner. Only one man for that!! :) But the good book does talk about 'you will know them by the fruit they bear' and I guess it doesn't take much of a 'fruit inspector' to see what fruit CEIPS is bearing.
Yes, I go to church every Sunday and I don't think they have change the TEN COMMANDMENTS to say it's ok now to adultery. Correct?
Now that's funny.
It's good for starting a campfire or for my puppy's training, but read it? Really, people do that?
And he that is without sin may cast the first stone ...
Attending church and/or tigthing does not make you a good Christian or even a decent human being.
Local,
Senator Ceips has more character in her little finger than you have in your entire soul. Politics is a filthy business but it shouldn't be and it doesn't have to be. People like you perpetuate the filth and as long as you do, politicians will have people around who will defend and attack. You and those like you make such people necessary. Why not stop contributing to the problem and become part of the solution? Let's talk about issues, platforms, capabilites, and on the job performance. You know, the things that count, not the things that affect your erectile tissue.

OK ....I will bite! Please tell me the accomplishments of Ceips? I promise to be open minded and put her Character issues to the side and only think about results.
So go ahead name them?
I've responded to your prior requests and you seem to ignore them. for one thing, there is the $60,000 for the schools. Yes I agree that it isn't much, but it IS something. And, I am reminded of the town hall meeting she set up last year to give the people direct contact with those who were battling to reopen the McTeer Bridge. Every agency involved and the contractors were represented there and gave info to everyone who attended. Nobody else thought to involve the general population.
Keep in mind too, the Senator has yet to be involved in a full session of the Senate. She was elected mid term last sessioon and it isn't yet mid term this session. How much do you expect her to accomplish in that short time?
next thing you know they will say Ceips is paying you.
Don't you know we can only make up stories and spread cow dung over this here garden?

OK....wasn't she our Rep for years too? Any accomplishments there? Nice try, you get 2 points: 1 for $60,000 for educations & 1 point for a meeting ( I don't know if she should get credit for the meeting but I'll give it to you anyway). OK that is over a 1 year period.....so far she ain't batting to well. Correct?
If you spent some time there you could probably come away with all kinds of stuff from Columbia.
You missed the home tax thing. I thought that mattered to you or you just looking to pick a fight?
How much money has the governor gotten for our schools here in Beaufort?
More Davis baloney. Davis - the Governor's shill on the Board - did all he could to delay action on the port. He and Sanford have done all they could to make sure Charleston has been taken care of. Sanford owes Robertson, the former Beaufort County GOP Chief payback for his support. Robertson quietly was against Ceips - a fact well known in inside circles..............................Sanford and Davis continue to run a campaign that is consistent with their actions in Columbia. This is why the pair are so widely hated there................................Beaufort voters need to take a step back and note why Ceips has such strong backing by those with the power in our state. And they need to think about how badly beaufort will be hurt without her..............................Wake up Beaufort - state leaders support Ceips. We need her strong relationships in Columbia - not the kind of idsaster Davis - the shill for his boss - would bring - - - VOTE FOR CEIPS
Ceips still has done nothing for us in Beaufort County! I don't care who else you vote for or if you don't like the Governor. I'm not a big fan of his either. But it does not make sense to keep people in office that don't give us results.
Please tell me all the accomplishments she has completed? She was our Rep. before and Senator for only year but I don't see a list of accomplishments!
And no you can not give her credit for the property tax break, she did not write/sponsor the bill, it was not her grand idea nor did she work on it.
... or "shillaber" or "I got shilled" ... no wait, "we got shilled" ...no, I think it's more like "we got royally shilled in the a**!
Now I am feeling a little shilled and all we are left with is the shillings.
I think I've got a bad case of the shills.
Listen up class ...I have an example of a "shill" for you a la wickerpeteria.
Shill: A shill is an associate of a person/political group, who pretends no association to person/group and assumes the air of an enthusiastic supporter. The intention of the shill is, using crowd psychology, to encourage others unaware of the set-up to support the political group's ideological claims.
OR a "Shill" could be:
"a person who publicizes or praises something or someone for reasons of self-interest, personal profit, or friendship or loyalty".
Well Troops….
All Tom has to do is call Ceips out on anything she has actually accomplished!! We are not talking paper here. I mean actually deliverables and the dates they were completed. All he has to do is say “WHEN I BECOME YOUR SENATOR….as architect of the PORTS DEAL…I WILL SOLVE ALL LANDFILL ISSUES STATEWIDE AND PROVIDE FREE TRASH PICKUP BY PROVIDING A PLAN TO USE the machines at http://www.startech.net to PRODUCE HYDROGEN AND ELECTRICITY AND CLOSE ALL LANDFILLS!! Its a “NO BRAINER”. Gov Muni-BONDS to pay for machines and sell electricity back to SCE&G to pay for bonds!! Sell the hydrogen to pay for hydrogen powered trash trucks. Taxpayers would see a decrease in taxes because of FREE pick-up! The LEFT see a cleaner environment and everyone sees lowered taxes ...especially businesses. Do you know how much businesses get charged for pick-up? NOW THEY WILL GET PAID!! TRASH IS ACTUALLY MONEY!!!
So, one could presume from your excitement over trash and the resultant gas that you are in the trash business. And on a first name basis with the crooked Governeloper's right hand lackey too. Would that make you "Tom's" new employer or just another big money contributor with a profitable agenda in mind? Also, isn't "Tom" a lawyer? I don't believe he's in the architecture business. When you mentioned "Ports Deal" were you referring to the one in Jasper Co where SC must share ownership of it's own soveriegn land with another state, or the botched Port Royal port sale that the Governeloper illegally interfered with. Governeloper...that would be "Tom's" former boss, mentor, and shining example of leadership, integrity, and honesty!
Isn't this Doug Robertson guy a developer?
Sheesh, just what we need in Columbia another developer. He should just stay home and continue to rape the lowcountry like he has for how ever long he has been at it.
Surprise, surprise that the governordeveloper and his buddy Mr. Davis would support another developer.
I am still undecided, but this cut and paste was posted by friends of Ceips in the newsletter of the Lady's Island Business and Professional Association web page listed at the bottom:
"Even before deciding to offer for public office herself, Catherine Ceips had burnished a reputation for diligent constituent service.
For years she oversaw constituent service matters for her friend and mentor, the late Congressman Floyd Spence. Catherine became known for her hard work and enthusiasm for helping people solve problems, and was later asked by Spence’s successor -- Congressman Joe Wilson -- to lead his office as Field Director as well.
In 2002, Catherine was elected to the S.C. House of Representatives, where the insights she gained working alongside Spence and Wilson helped her to ensure that her constituents were better served than ever before. When our Senate seat was vacated last year, Catherine stepped up to meet the constituent service needs of ALL of Beaufort County while we were without a Senator, and after the election has continued the tradition of providing the best constituent service in the state.
My goal is simple,” Catherine says. “I want to give the people of Beaufort County the absolute best representation anywhere.”
Catherine Ceips was born in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, and learned the value of public service at an early age, and was heavily involved in her community, her church and her school. Catherine attended the University of South Carolina and received her degree of Bachelor of Science in Health Education in 1976.
Catherine’s mother was a school-teacher, and instilled in Catherine the importance of public education which led Catherine to put her health-education background to work as a teacher herself.
In 1986, Catherine married the late Dr. Richard Ceips. Catherine worked as a teacher until she and her husband Richard opened their business, Sea Island Ophthalmology. Catherine has also served as community services director for the Medical University of South Carolina.
For more than two decades, Catherine has been a leader in the Republican Party, inspired by fiscal conservatives like Ronald Reagan.
“I passionately support lower taxes and responsible spending,” Catherine says. “I believe the most important thing any government
can do is let taxpayers keep more of their hard-earned money.”
During her service in the House and Senate Catherine has been a leader in the fight against illegal immigration, cutting taxes and reducing spending, and bringing much needed reforms to state government.
A key piece of legislation that she authored which became law was the bill to criminalize human trafficking. This important legislation is but one part of the larger illegal immigration problem facing our nation. Many of the same individuals that facilitate the entry of illegal immigrants into our country also traffic humans for use in forced labor or prostitution. South Carolina was the first state in the Southeast US to successfully pass a human trafficking law. Catherine has also authored other significant illegal immigration bills, most notably the provision to restrict tax dollars to legal contractors or sub-contractors working on government projects or contracts and incentives for employers utilizing the Federal E-Verify system.
Catherine’s record on protecting our unique quality of life here in the lowcountry is outstanding. This year alone she has authored
and co-sponsored several significant pieces of legislation to protect our environment. Partnering with Congressman Wilson, Catherine has encouraged adding the Port Royal Sound to the National Estuary Program. That designation would bring with it added federal dollars and recognition for that important waterway. She has also authored a bill to phase out the use of phosphates in cleaning products used in South Carolina. By limiting phosphates in our water supply, this bill will protect both our drinking water and the natural resources that abound in our local marshes, creeks and rivers.
Since she was first elected in 2002, Catherine has had the privilege of honoring local students with a special scholarship. As a member of the Republican Women’s Caucus a $1,000 scholarship was started in her name to support education in South Carolina and honor local students. This year Catherine has the opportunity to present two $1,000 scholarships to deserving students.
Applications will be available in high school guidance departments or directly through her office with a deadline in late May. Interested students can call her office in Columbia (803-212-6032) or send her an e-mail at
to request a package.
Catherine is honored to serve the citizens of Beaufort County, in Columbia. If you require any assistance, please contact her."
It was posted here in the newsletter as well as one for Davis:

The Senator's resume is accurate. I think the best way to find out what she has done and plans to do in the future is to hear her speak. Attend one or more of her campaign stops and her her speak. She always opens the floor to questions, and from what I have seen, she answeres very candidly. There's nothing better than hearing it directly from the source. Once you have met her you will have a hard time believing the mud that is slung in her direction. I think we should also ask what her opponent done.
I know her and she sang in a church choir with me for awhile before she was elected. She sang alto and I sang tenor, but we sat beside each other. I have had her and her late husband as a client. We have not been in contact for awhile. Personally, I enjoyed talking with her and have a lot of respect. I don't believe the gossip and innuendo of her personal life. We should, as with any elected person or one running for office, be more concerned with their abilities and philosophy in solving issues that come before the legislature.
Egret,
Your views on the process are identical to mine. All of the negativity takes too much focus from the real issues. And, if you were in church with her, you and I must share the same denomination. I hope to see you there one day.
