Some local officials prefer challenger in Statehouse races

BLUFFTON -- Disappointed by what they call a lack of support for issues that would help Lowcountry residents, some Beaufort County officials are backing challengers rather than the area's two incumbent GOP state legislators. Read the story here.

Instead of telling us why the leadership at the state level is backing Ceips - we get a worthless bit of information about local officials. Who has the power? It sure isn't "Skeet" Von Harten or Weston Newton. In the scheme of things they are bit players. The power is in Columbia and there is zero action statewide to eliminate that. So the locals whine and complain and "tilt toward windmills" - but are out to lunch....................Newton calls special assessment districts a "sham"? Just what does he call a Tax Increment Finance District - TIF Districts? He has backed each and every one that came his way while in office. Was building USCB and TCL's new campus' a "sham"?......................Once again - the reality is that we need people in the state house that are as close to the people that wield the power in our state as possible. We don't need whining complaining local officials whose personal agenda's will never be accomplished. Home rule is fine - but the bottom line is Newton and Von Harten don't have one ounce of control - and neither would pandering Tom Davis. VOTE FOR BEAUFORT - VOTE FOR CEIPS

Savethelowcountry..........how much money is Ceips paying you to 'blog' for her???

Your don't have a clue to what your talking about! Now, according to you the entire elected County Council Board is wrong??? Your ignorance is prevailing!

Tell me why your girl CEIPS has not help in the education for Beaufort County Schools systems, oh yes, she got an additional $60,000 for us! WOW !!

We are educating too many non-US children in Beaufort County, it has been estimated (yes, I attend the board meetings) around 2500 students which cost us all! So why doesn't your girl CEIPS tackle that one???

Ceips has not accomplished anything for BEAUFORT COUNTY.....time for her to go! Vote for anyone else, write in a vote, just don't for vote CEIPS !!!

someone is getting a little temper tantrum!!!!!!! hehe

Well if what you say is true for Ceips than it would also be true for the rest of the characters from Beaufort. Senator Richardson, Reps Rodgers, Erickson, Chalk, Herbkershmen, Hodges and who knows else. They have "not helped in the education for Beaufort County Schools systems."

They gotta go too?

I guess you are not for accountablity or results? It's OK to be average? What number in the US are we ranked in our school system? 50? 49? 48?

We should expect more! And if we don't get it, let's start one step at a time. CEIPS your first......out!

I thought that's what the guys and gals on the school board were paid to do?

Or that person elected to run all the schools in South Carolina?

Sounds like you have a personal problem with Ceips. That's okay, but if you could stick to the facts that might help a little.

Posted by Pennywise - Tue, 2008-05-06 17:47

Since that guy leads the state should not he be the first to go?

What has he done to fix the schools?

No personal issues with Ceips, just that my taxes keep going up. All while she still has not accomplished anything in Columbia to help. Oh yeah, she got an additional $60,000 for us......

Posted by local29902 - Tue, 2008-05-06 17:52

cause they would tell you that it is the county and the city of Beaufort that keep increasing your taxes.

I thought the state just whacked our home taxes by half.

So if that is what you want to vote for, you got a winner in Ceips along with a bunch of others from Beaufort.

The ones you want don't like would be County Councilmen and the fine people that run the school district and the local towns. They are the ones raising your taxes.

Fine with me, I just think it's time to demand results and if we don't get them then we are not holding our elected officials accountable. It's time. Unfortunately, Gov Sanford is not running this time around. But CEIPS is and would someone please tell me what she has accomplished????

Posted by local29902 - Tue, 2008-05-06 18:00

You are right Sanford is not running this time around.

But. And that's one big but. His shill is.

Tell us what Davis/sanford has accomplished?

I did not say I was a Davis or Sanford fan.......I am just not buying into CEIPS.

So please tell me what she has accomplished?

But hey, you sound like you knew everyhing great & wonderful about her.....& I just wanted you to share her accomplishments for Beaufort County.

have you read other blogs who stated she did not return phone calls....I have read several. Sad, but true.

Posted by local29902 - Tue, 2008-05-06 18:15

can't say it wouldn't happen. Heck sometimes my mom and dad wont return my phone calls.

You know why I remember that? Cause my friend called a bunch of other politicians and not called her back. Ceips did and helped her out.

Funny thing is my friend does not even vote. Go figure.

PW,
Just to add to what you said, HossierDaddy posted a few days ago about a problem that the Senator helped him with. I know him and am familiar with the problem he is having. He had contacted many public officials and the ONLY one who responded or did anything at all was the Senator. I am tired of hearing that she does not respond, I've seen her do it too many times to believe that she would intientionally ignore anyone. I think we need to deal with the fact that she probably gets hundreds of calls, e-mails, and letters everyday. She does not have a large staff like a US Senator would have, and it stands to reason that some things might fall through the cracks just due to volume.

Come on,

Saying Ceips is paying Savethelowcountry is like saying GWB is paying Cindy Sheehan for Iraq PR.

You don't pay Rosencrants and Guildenstern to write your essay on major plot characters.

Said another way. You don't employ someone that everyone disregards in order to be taken seriously.

Posted by Beaufortfuture - Tue, 2008-05-06 17:44

.................stick to the facts. If Ceips has done ONE thing for us, please, PLEASE, we beg of you................PLEASE enlighten us!!
You can't, can you? Instead, you point your finger at others to try to deflect attention from her TOTAL LACK of accomplishment.
Word around town is that she is gone, baby, gone.
since she has done nothing, why shouldn't we all give someone else a chance to prove that they are in Columbia to work for us, not just to work the social junket.

Make up your mind pennywise, is it the school board, or is it all the past and present legislators and/or senators, or maybe it's just aliens from another galaxy? Come on! I mean, I cannot keep up with all your blame shifting!
Ceips is the one present Senator who could only recoup a measly 60 grand for this county.
Are you kdding us? Talk about NO CLOUT.

Posted by localshrimp@hot... - Tue, 2008-05-06 19:39

I didn't see anyone else recouping even so much as a dime. At least she did something. There is another Senator in the county, several representitives, and the good Governeloper touts himself as a Beaufort local, what did any of them do? You have a strange set of values!

Posted by topgunscooter - Tue, 2008-05-06 23:15

Keep it up Topgun and Pennywise you may finally crack local29902. Although I think local29902 may have it's head stuck in the ground or paid by the Grace group. Senator Ceips got $60,000. more than what Beaufort County had coming. I say elect her again, we don't need the "Good Ole' Boys crowd. Topgun, look forward to seeing you again election night if not sooner.

Thanks, but I doubt either local29902 or localshrimp will be silenced with reason. Consider that both keep saying 'show us just one thing Ceips has accomplished'. I've responded each time with not one but two such things. The responses either go ignored or like yesterday when the response was basically that I had shown two...where are some more? They asked for one,I gave then two! if they want more, it's all available with a little research. They can go do the work, I honestly think that both of them must be able to read at somewhere above the basic level. They don't comprehend, but they obviously can read.
You're the second person here to mention the Grace's, and I think you both may be on the right track. It's could very likely the handywork of the Beth-Eugene Grace/Edie Rodgers/Harriet Keyserling Consortium and their trusty pet Herman Gaither. I've never understood that consortium, isn't Keyserling a Dem and the rest Repulicans? None of these people make any secret of their dislike for the Senator although I don't know the reason. I don't think it relates to her ability to do her job. If your suspicions are true, one has to wonder how people of their standing could stoop to such reprehensible behavior. You would think they could use their influence in a respectable manner to acheive their goals.
I am compelled to repeat what I have said before and to echo what Steve Blust said on Monday. The time has come to clean up the political process. All of the negativity and gossip mongering is counter-productive to the process. It takes focus away from the issues that are truly important and we are forced to wade through mud to make an informed decision. I also agree with Steve that the practice of mudslinging more often than not will backfire on the candidate it is intended to help. The problem isn't exclusive to campaigns or their staffs either, even the common folks who post negativity here are doing damage to the process. I will continue to counter these negative posts because I think they are wrong. It has gone beyond trying to help a candidate I support. I you have noticed, I have made noise about mud being thrown at both candidates, and I will continue to do so.

That sounds awfully like a letter sent out by the Grace clan.

If what you say is true of Ceips, it must also have been true of the former Senator and our good governor.

So must they go also?

Or is this just a hate-fest on Ceips?
