Saddam's execution

I have been very surprised to see that no one has commented on the execution of Saddam. Maybe the fact that I have now opened the subject people might post their feelings on the matter. I am just curious as to how the rest of the people around here feel about this event. I personally think it took too long to accomplish but I guess the end result is what matters and he deserved to die.

I'm not really sure what to think. I'm pro war, and I'm pro death penalty, but for some reason I just dont fell like it was right to kill him, atleast at this juncture. I feel that he should have been tried by an international court and they should have given him whatever sentence they felt necessary, I guess like Slovadam Milosovic (not quite sure I spelled that correctly, sorry). I just feel that this is going to hurt the image of the US even further, and Bush will be labled as a murder. But one thing is for sure, his execution will not stop the violence. In the long run, it probably did more harm than good, but we will have to wait and see.

You can take your international courts and leave the planet. They are a farce. Saddam was Iraqi. His crimes took place in Iraq. Many of his crimes were against Iraqis.

If anyone else has charges against him, I'm sure his body is available for trials.

criminal or no criminal he faced death like a man and even to the end he remained Saddam. I am in no way pro Saddam, but he maintained his dignity even as he stood on the gallows.

Hah! He took it like the obstinate jerk that he was. All he was was sincere...but he was sincerely wrong.

Yeah. He maintained his dignity. That's not hard when you go through life without dignity.

little doubt that this wretched man deserved to die. But I wonder what has been accomplished by his hanging?

Well, let me put your wondering to rest. Saddam Hussein was a common criminal guilty of capital crimes. He will never kill again.

First off I would like to say Happy New Year to all - now about Saddam yes I agree he should have been put to death - There are way too many criminals of all sorts in our USA jail system... I say we group them all up every 30 days or so & have a party called MASS EXECUTION !!! as Forrest sometime says - CLEAN HOUSE LOL....

Lol, yes, that would be nice, but I dont see that happening anytime soon. And I know that I will probably get yelled at for this, but this is spurr of the moment thinking here...What if we had kept him alive, and moved him to the Prison at Guantanamo along with the rest of the terrorist that we have in our custody?

You seem to be pretty astute for your age & Forrest said that he and I may know your Mom & Dad - if so,please tell them Happy New Year D&D ? let me know if I'm right I would love to say a BIG HELLO to them.. will give E-mail if I'm correct .....

Regardless of how any of us feel about Saddam's death, he was tried by an Iraqi court, sentenced by an Iraqi court, condemned to death by an Iraqi court and hanged by the Iraqi government. The US involvement was to aid the Iraqi government in security and was in no way involved in the legal process and he was not under US laws. Even at that, the US will be blamed by many as if the US was directly involved.

If he had been in a US court, even after sentencing, the appeals would have lasted for 10 years or more and a death sentence may not have been carried out.

You probably do, because they have lived here since forever...My mom graduated from BC in 1980. And yes, both of their first names start with D.

Nah. He had more than his share of steak, lobster, and rice pilaf.

As nice as it is to have Suddam off the planet roasting somewhere extra-toasty, it would've been more profitable to put him in a plexi-glass cage and charge admission for people to look at him.

Like a zoo - even at $5.00 a ticket, there'd probably be a significant return. (look at how much OJ's ridiculous books sold for on the internet)

Who gets the money? give the proceeds to the humane association or a children's fund.

He's pretty much a crispy critter by this time though.
