Personal thanks to the county council.... morons!!!!
I have stayed off this blog because of the bandwagoneers of bad mouthers that never seem to learn that sometimes they just need to shut up. I fully expect that here today so all of you just hop on the watermelon truck and bring it on.
I haven't eaten in a restarant in this town in well over a year. Being as local as you can get without being born here this act should say alot about more than just JP's Place. I do however go out with my friends in my downtime. I love going and watching Monday night football and meeting the large varity of people both local and tourist that come out at night. I work in a place where I am frequently asked where someone can get a great meal or go have a drink and still do not bat an eye in suggesting a locally owned business. Never a chain or a place I know is not owned by someone that has lived here long enough to cross over from transplant to local (That would be someone that IS giving someone good back to this town). Dick Stewart should know what I'm talking about on this note. I will never see him as a local (love what you did to Ribualt Squares signs BTY.... TACKY AND GENERIC!!!) because his developement is turning Beaufort into a bad version of Hilton Head. But I am not here to bash one person so I'll get to my point.
I am a smoker. I do not smoke in my house. I do not smoke in a place where people are eating. I even go a step farther. If I am sitting next to someone in the bar that is not smoking I will ask if the smoke would bother them and if they say yes I will either wait or get up and move to smoke. But ya know it is a BAR! The ban is restarants is a given. I agree with it 100%. But for a bar patron to have to go outside to smoke is a little stupid. It runs with the joke, "I wasn't drunk in public. I was drunk in the bar I was thrown in public!" People that are bothered by cigerette smoke don't go to bars for a reason. They go and see Mark at the Chaser Shop or Bill's on the island and hide in their homes. (Ya'lls business' will be booming soon.)
It really makes me wonder who's pocket was being thought about one this one. Hey Dick don't you own a few buildings with a bar or two in them?
Are you, the council, going to give the already taxed Sherrif's Dept. more money to inforce this?? No-one says alot about the officers smoking in the squad cars or right in front of the Department building itself. One has to walk through a cloud of smoke to get in the Courthouse when Court is being held.
Now just where do ya think all the smoking patrons downtown are gonna go to smoke? You morons may want to step it up a little bit with the waterfront park because there will soon be alot of cigerette butts out there to add to the beauty of it all.

How about repost the pics of the lungs again. Then again that watermelon hauler puts out more smoke than 50 cigerette smokers together and it spreads its toxic fumes all over town not an inclosed area full of people that want to be there (smoke and all). I think we all have a right not to have to smell that thing driving down the road!
You see I don't push my habit on anyone around me that is not like me. I go to places that a smoker is given the same regard as a none smoker. I maintain a smoke free home for the sake of my kids. I give courtesy to those that don't smoke and not smoke around them. Why don't we just go back to prohibition. Oh wait then the govenment would be loosing more money from the tax revenue they get off all us smokers and drinkers. So... now that we can't sit and have a drink and smoke with other drinkers and smokers I wonder what we will do. I can think of a few things that might rattle the council cages and shake things up at the next meeting. They love it when I show up. ;)
As a former smoker who lost a wife to lung cancer I've never hidden my views on smoking, but in light of these restrictions, I wonder if the [demand of service] will bring back a variation of the Speak Easy. When I smoked I thoroughly enjoyed a smoke with my drink. Hard to have one without the other when you're a smoker.
So, how long before we see "private" clubs springing up to meet the needs of smokers. The smoker would be the majority in such an establishment and you'd no longer have to ask if it was OK to light up.
Reminds of a meeting I was in many years ago with a room full of tobacco farmers and warehouse owners. The meeting started to drag so I asked if I could smoke. Their reply: "We would be upset if you didn't!"
All the clubs and bars in Spartenburg are members only. You have to pay dues to get in the door and have your card to come back in. Wonder what the council would think about that. Wonder how much they would charge for solution. Look out!!! They could make a dollar off this it might work!!!
That if you ever want to try to quit and you think you can't please contact me. No, I have no miracles but I've been there and I know how tough it can be to stop. Jus sayin
I don't know if you realized it or not - but you constantly post about Taprooms & Bars & drinking of all sorts in your posts - now I know why you call yourself "happymom.. I hope your kids do not happen to stumble upon your postings - hopefully they are adults ?
I thought that the topic was the smoking ban passed by the county. Why is happymom being admonished? Is it because of her opinion of the smoking ban?
maybe it is cuz' Happy Mom is straight up and to the point?, ya' know...sort of like Sara was "straight up and to the point" on her "happy" times at Mother's Goose in the 70's,..
Do tell, I was NOT the ONLY under age drinker in Beaufort during the 70's...
Oh, Kevin, our secret is out!!!! LOL!
Uh oh, sounds like a trip down memory lane.
Oh yes slick, but it don't make no difference if we are passing a car, following the flow of traffic or what, we MUST stay in the right hand lane, this is South KAKALACKIE "don't 'cha know"...having said that, we must stay on topic dear heart, I mean , what would the "neighbors" say...
Yes, it stinks. No, I don't want to smell it when I eat...BUT, I know what I need to do to keep me and my child safe, healthy, and happy, and I do not think I have the right to invade somebody's space...as I don't want mine invaded. So, the morale of the story is, I can keep my kid away from smoke, can't keep him away from life, and afterall, life is full of what? ...LOL
Got a DARFUR braclet for ya'.
Do the new restrictions on smoking only apply to indoor businesses?
If so, then could we see the proliferation of Tiki bars and other ingenious means of "evasion".
I'm not condoning smoking but the anarchist in me comes out from time to time.
With the possible setting we have for outdoor bars and restaurants , I think a few of them could do well for 9-10 months a year.
Then we always have the old standby that has worked for gambling and, well other services, and that is the floating/cruise facility.
This ordinance could just spark a few new businesses.
I really thank you for your concern about my drinking habits. I am no more a bar fly than Ned Tupper or Billy Keyserling. Did you ever think for one second that maybe.... just maybe mind you, I don't drink. When I open my mouth and speak on here it is usually for unselfish reasons. I speak for the masses that won't open their mouth or don't know where to voice themselves. I don't jump in just to get myself noticed, to let everyone know I'm here or to belittle any one for the life choices that they make. And just for the record, I have stated before that my children DO read the blogs. I feel it is important for them to see how our rights and responsiblity as Americans plays out in real life. And this blog is a real life as you can get with the diversity of backgrounds that voice their issues here. I work two jobs, go to collage full time, am VERY active in the schools and this community and raise four children (13-5) on my own. What do you do?? (I am really hoping to get something sarcastic here cause I did say to bring it on!)
