Help Save Frosty...
I was so sad to hear some rather silly news today. My family went to "The snowman" on Ladys Island to get our Christmas tree. While checking out I noticed a petition. When I asked what is - Help Save Frosty??? I was told that these folks are not allowed to have their big snowman up because it violates some sign ordinance. How STUPID is this? I mean let's get real it's a couple of weeks out of the year. This snowman is a tradition of my family and I'm sure many others. What harm is it to have him up for the Christmas season?I know there are those of you who don't agree....Please keep your negative thoughts to yourself.I just wanted to let the people who visit these same VERY friendly, hard working people every year know that we may be losing Mr.Snowman.How sad..first some of the stores can't even say Merry Christmas. Now, we can't have a snowman either? What is this world coming to? I guess I just don't see the harm?

Supposedly, the giant Frosty violates the city "sign" ordinance.
Did you see any "signage" on Frosty ? NO !
The giant blow up is merely an attraction for the children of the area.My 12 year old daughter was filmed by a local TV station 11 years ago wandering thru the trees and awestruck by Frosty. It is a local tradition. To our family Nov. 24 means two things
1) Thanksgiving and 2) Frosty's arrival.
When Chick-fil-A has the giant inflatable cow or a jumping tent for kid's night, is that a violation, too? I'll probably be sorry I asked.
My advice to the City " Codes" Dept...get a life !!!!
Seems like this issue has come up before with Frosty and the county sign ordinance. If my memory is right, enough people protested and Frosty was allowed to remain. Not sure where the city line is now on Lady's Island, but Frosty may now indeed be in the city.
I bet if the Solar Store across the street from Frosty hooks him up to the solar power grid and petitions the city that he is now Eco-Friendly Non-denominational Folk Art they would leave it alone and make BJWSA paint over thier advertisement on the big ugly watertower. BTW heres how to figure out if something is in the city, they would only annex property or businesses so they would not have to provide any service for the tax dollars they get and secondly if thier tax bill is twice of thier county neighbors. Or you can call 911 from that location, watch the County Sheriff's arrive in 5 minutes, make sure everyone is ok and then stand around and wait for a city cop (15 minutes) to arrive to make the report, unless the bridge opens and then expect a phone call and nothing else. Thanks god the Sheriff's Office and the Ladys Is FD ignore the lines when it comes to saving lives.
According to the owners, their was a dispute at one time over Frosty. If I understand correctly, they were "grandfathered" or permitted for 10 years. That time is now up so the city codes people have a ridiculous new "bandwagon" to jump on.
Wasn't there an issue a couple of years ago with Carolina Stamper downtown's bubble machine? It seems I read that the city nixed the bubble machine because they deemed it a sign, but then there was such outrage that they rescinded their decree.
I don't remember a rescindment of a decree caused by bubbles. I do remember the pc crap about bubbles/signage and frosty/and polictical leftover trash/ and about anything a fifth grader would come up with..But, only after some election.
