Fishing for cheats

Perhaps cycling and track and field could take a cue from an unlikely place — fishing.
Embattled by doping scandals, lying and cheating, the two sports have tried unsuccessfully over the years to rid themselves of these problems. Floyd Landis will likely have his Tour de France title stripped due to elevated levels of testosterone found in his test after the stage where he made his amazing comeback. And Justin Gatlin, world-record holder in the 100 meters, faces a lifetime ban for failing a drug test in which he tested positive for testosterone.
Maybe the heads of each sport should turn to fishing for guidance.
Fishing?
Following his team’s victory in the Wal-Mart FLW Kingfish Tour this past weekend in Beaufort, captain of Team Hard Way, C. Todd Korker, had one last obligation to fulfill before I was able to corral him for an interview.
As he was being sequestered in the FLW trailer, I overheard the mention of a polygraph. Thinking it was code or slang for something else, I asked one of the representatives what that meant exactly.
She said it was what it was — a lie-detector test. Go figure.
