I should make a list of the people on McCain's staff that worked for Freddie and Fannie, or that Keating gentlemen, or McCain's own ties to Ayers.

I loved the "Neighbor" one though, as if we control who we live by and can go next door, "Hi. In 20 years I'm going to run for President. Some lack-wit with no independent thought capacity is going to try and associate me with you to try and invalidate any position I've ever held past, present, and future, because you smoke marijuana. Please move. I can't move. The terrorists win that way, and I've already got a problem with them because since they talk about me it means we're best friends."

A good neighbor is someone who will help you buy a house that a seller wants to sell along with some additional property in one package. The neighbor will buy the additional property on the same day you buy the house and sell it to you for less that what they paid for it. Now that is a good neighbor.

"wigger" is a socialist term. "W" stands for White House.

of these kind and going to the White House.

Nope. See here for the definition.

Also see http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=wiggers

The term does provide some interesting insight into the thinking of the people who use the term.

How could I have left out JAMES A JOHNSON (jim) who was the CEO of Fannie Mae from 1991-1998. Jim was in charge of selecting Obama's VP. Seems that a lot of senators received campaign contributions from Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. Obama was number 2 on the list with 126,349 dollars, he is a quick study. Some seem to think ACORN and CRA are the reason for the current economy.

OK, not blogging for a few days has me wanting to jump on the straight talk express but I thought that I'd do better just expressing my true feelings. I am not black, I am not prejudice I have members of my immediate family who are Black and I love them just as I love every other member of my inner circle. I love my friends, Black or White and I take pride in my country, men and women of every race. I have worked for, reported to, met and risked my life for every President since RR. I WANT a Black President and I want a Woman President but I want the First Black President to be a GREAT MAN not what we are faced with in Obama. I have a great relationship with Colin Powell and I felt from the moment I met him in 1993 that he would be the best first black leader of the greatest nation on the planet. I have met Condie Rice and she would someday make a great first black female President and neither of these great American would let down our guard or destroy the honor of the leader of the free world. So, my black friends (the ones I know and the ones I have yet to meet) if you as a race are going to rally your brothers and sisters behind a black candidate why do you do it behind a man so untested and unknown as Obama? If you just want to elect a Black man to the office, get behind a man who could also do the job rather than just be Black. Vote for Dr. Bill Cosby, Chris Rock, Maya Angelou, John Conyers, Gary Franks, Colin Powell, Tiger Woods, Oprah Winfrey or anyone else. Rally behind someone who is NOT going to tear the country apart or serve so badly that he will be the only Black man (or woman) elected before we all die.

are appreciated. They are non debatable in my opinion since they are your own personal experiences. I do admire your candor, however your last sentence is troubling for me.

One must be realistic in assuming that the next President, whomever that might be, will be inheriting a world of issues left by the Bush/Cheney administration. For that to divide this country to the extent that no woman nor any person of color could consider vying for the Presidency again is perplexing.

If I take your last sentence at face value, this means that if a woman or a person of color finally makes it to the White House and has a difficult Presidency this will influence this country to the extent that no other woman or person of color would again be considered electable.

In essence, neither party nor platform matter, just the race and gender of the candidate and if Obama messes up, he messes up for all 'minorities'.

Surely this country is better than that.

Unfortunately I agree, and right now this country cannot do better. Looking at the state of our country, our racial issues, our inability to think without spinning any issue and the naked truth that most of the rest of the planet would like to see us reduced to canabalism. I add the last sentence because it is the most important and pressing issue facing us. Imagine, we elect a minority President who is still learning World Affairs and will be viewed by the rest of the world as weak until his first test. Nine months into his term 9/11 2.0 happens and the loss of life is a second national disaster on this century, the pundants, the opposition and the world sends a small percentage of the blame on our leader. The racial storm begins, the names are called and the world sees us implode. Do you really think the racially motivated and now politically motivated majority will ever allow another minority to be elected? Even I may second guess General Powell because of the performance of his vanguard. So, yes if the worse happens and a failure occurs then electing a marginal Black man to the office will be a death nail. It sounds like rehetoric but look past color, past sex past age, see ability, honor, experience, leadership and trust. We are at war, we are in trouble we need the right man at the right time. Obama or another black man or woman will have their time, we will have a minority President and we need to be SURE he or she is the right one at the right time rather than Just One Right Now.
BTW, why should it be any different now, when one messes up we all mess up, that's the American Way. Labels stick to everyone...

While given our brief exchange, I must say that I respect your honesty and opinion. You cannot be accused of spinning nor have you used code words to get your point across.

The scenario that you put forth is alarming, I wholeheartedly agree. I understand your humanity, loyalty to this country and guard. I share that.

What I disagree with is timing. If not now, when? If not him, who? There comes a time when we, as Americans, must confront our own hypocrisy. Admitting imperfection to the world does not equate weakness... in fact, it provides an opportunity to show our inclusion and strength.

Yes he will be tested. Checks, balances and Biden provide good support, in my opinion. Reading and viewing World News, it seems that people the world over are curious and wondering if we have the integrity to face our past and move on from it as an inclusive Superpower... or not. They wonder if we can talk the talk and walk the walk as we've been preaching Democracy to everyone else in the world. Now is our time.

If it is true that the world wants to see us reduced to cannibalism we have to wonder why. We have to ask ourselves why that may be. I guarantee that it is not because of our freedom... especially when women and people of color do not feel free.

You may feel that there's time in the future. I feel that there's no time like the present. Either way, God bless us all. I will stand beside you. Hopefully we can all stand together through our economic hardships and withstand the desire to see all of our troops back home, until they come back home to us.

Regardless of who wins, I hope that this country comes together and faces itself.

I really can only address one of your questions, Why Now, If not him Who? Well, unfortunately you and I were not born yesterday so we watched as the country got to where we are right now, we were accessories to placing our nation in the position we are in. Granted, many of us thought that some actions were in our best interest and disagreed with some but we kept our USA Passport and moved ahead. If not now when & if not him who? Well we are at war right now and our nation faces bigger threats from radicals around the world than we ever had in our cold war nightmares. SO, If not who then? Someone with Military leadership skills, tactical and international understanding and a proven understanding of what faces us in the caves of the Middle East, the jungles of SE Asia, the plains of equatorial Africa and every other corner of the world. Is there a Minority on the planet today that has that ability? Yes, unfortunately they are not on the Dem Ticket we have to choose from next month. John McCain does have that knowledge but he happens to be white. My answer would be Not Him, Not Now, Obama is not a wartime leader, he is not a man that will enjoy the respect of world leaders, the fear of terrorist and the loyalty of our own Military hierarchy (They will obey but they may not trust him). If we were not faced with survival in the world today, he may be a better choice than he is, but we cannot change yesterday. If not now when? That question sounds like desperation, must we have a minority President today? If Charles Rangel or Cynthia McKinney were the Dem candidate would we be haveing this debate right now? Should we vote simply because he is black, if that is the real answer then minorities will surely loose any hope of actually having a part in running this country and the world. If that was the goal the Cynthia McKinney would have been the best choice, she's black and a woman, and a total nutcase. Obama MAY have his day, when the world changes or when he gains the experience that comes with service. Here comes the kicker, If Obama was WHITE, he would have NEVER made it to the convention, a white candidate (Dem or Rep) with so little experience, with no military service, with the baggage he carries with him would have never been considered. But the question of why not him is simply stupid, is he the best and brightest black man in the country? If your answer is Yes, then the great men I know and call friends should be very angry at their entire race.
BTW, yes there IS a different standard, whites do not have to select the best to prove their cause, they have always been the standard. The FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT must be so far above the standard that the black or white question is never asked again.

This is an an appalling display of ignorance and RACISM AND BIGOTRY!!!!! How could you even justify it's use? There is no humor to be found. Feigning innocence or a lack of ill intent is not an excuse. This is deplorable.

... to remove the "wigger" reference. However I had previously noted the poster and the original post and removal without comment is still an indication of the mentality we're seeing.

I love to spice it up and trade barbs but there are places you just don't go.
I appreciate you reinforcing the fact that we can trash talk one another (99% done in fun) without resorting to racial epithets.

He has no desire to "change". Bottom feeders live in fear of anyone or any group that they believe is rising above them.

Not my original words, but so fitting...

While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75 year old rancher, who's hand was caught in the gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually the topic got around to Obama and his bid to be our president.

The old rancher said, 'Well, ya know, Obama is a 'Post Turtle''.
Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a 'post turtle' was.
The old rancher said, 'When you’re driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a 'post turtle'.

The old rancher saw the puzzled look on the doctor's face so he continued to explain. 'You know he didn't get up there by himself, he doesn't belong up there, and he doesn't know what to do while he's up there, and you just wonder what kind of dumb arse put him up there to begin with'.

So here's the question: What happens when he falls off?

Posted by alh29907 - Mon, 2008-10-13 09:32

Most likely will act like a hoop snake?

Posted by NoCm - Mon, 2008-10-13 10:02

I must acknowledge my ignorance, as I did not understand your post.

I was inferring that if the post turtle falls off the post, he will most likely land upside down on his shell, leaving him helpless. Not a good place for the elected POTUS to be in.

Posted by alh29907 - Mon, 2008-10-13 11:40

In the event that a turtle would fall off a post the shape of the turtle's shell gives it a high probability of being on it's side at some point. With all that kinetic energy seeking a path to escape the shell will begin to roll. Touche Turtle 101(that would be Touche Turtle the cartoon). Now the vision of a rolling reptile brought on the thought of the hoop snake. The hoop snake reportedly will place its tail(which has the "deadly barb")into its mouth and begin to roll. Neither reptile are a danger at this point. The turtle is recoiled within its shell, and the hoop snake has its own tail. No danger.
Reason for putting a turtle on a fence post is to share the grub. Someone who is hungry will come along and dinner will be presented where they can easily find it. No TV dinner here though. Old rancher got his livestock to choose from, also not too neihborly or he'd a known. (spelling the way I want)
