Reckless Joe Wilson.

Reckless Joe Wilson it is time to retire to SC.

Reckless Spending, sending jobs overseas and voting yourself big pay raises is not why you were sent to congress. Discuss.

Guys - I am 100% for making Congress a well-paying job that someone can earn a living and feed a family on.

Here's why:

You get elected. You need a home in your district, and a home in Washington DC. You need to travel between DC and SC. The guvmint does not pick up any of that travel expense. You pay rent or mortgage twice, you pay taxes in two places. Now - do you ONLY want lawyers other independently wealthy people running for office? No way. Yet, given the system, thats all you get.

I WANT to be able to elect a Deputy Sheriff or small business owners as a Congressperson to reflect the average sensibilities of the Low Country; not some upper class twit good ol' boy who only attends private weddings in a public park and pals around with the hoi polloi.

Under the present system, thats all you got.

I want to increase congressional pay to $250k. I want to build an apartment complex for congressmen who want to live in government housing for free. NO CASH IN LIEU for those who buy or rent outside. Dorms if you will.

I want to pay them a living wage and let them live HONESTLY instead of taking freebies from every special interest group in order to make ends meet. I want to buy them 12 trips a year to DC and back on an American owned airline to let them travel.

Unless we STOP this holier than thou attitude about our Congress people 'serving' their district and start paying them correctly and honestly and covering their costs, we perpetuate the cycle of special interests.

Anyone else agree?

Amen! As a matter fact, I think there should be a law against those with JD's running for elected office at any level and there should be a max 2 term limit on ALL elected legislative offices. No offense meant, Joe, but when businessman types legislate, they will legislate in a way that makes the law on the side of healthy business and when they finish their 2nd term, they will have to live with the laws they legislate. It's called self accountability. I also think that since we have 2 senators, one should be an owner type and one should be an employee type.

Would there still be temptation to legislate to one's advantage? Of course. But then the legislator's working peers (you and I) would also benefit.

How much does the average American make? What about the average SC worker? It is probably 1/4 of what congressmen and women make.

On top of that pay that have access to millions of dollars in other perks. What about all that mail that Joe Wilson sends out? Paid for by us - the taxpayers. What about all those trips he has taken all over the world? Paid for by us - the taxpayers.

If you cant live on 150,000 plus access to millions you probably dont know how to budget money and have no place spending ours.
