ADHD/ADD help in Bft???

Does anyone know of any resources, support groups, counselors anything/anyone that deals with ADHD/ADD in Beaufort or close by? The schools don't seem to be much help unless your child has a "LD". If they are very bright it seems help is limited. If anyone has information it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

What kind of help are you seeking? Local pediatricians should be able to steer you in terms of information and support. The school system should not be responsible for providing you with support for your child's attention disorder.

We have been to pediatricians. Are you saying that the place children spend a majority of their time shouldn't be able to help more? This is where children spend most of their day!! I don't believe I said the school system should be responsible. I simply said unless your child has the typical Learning Disablity there isn't much help. Some people just aren't very educated on this debilitating disease it's self. Sad but true!

No the schools do not tend to help. My child has ADD. I skipped the school process because they always made it seem like my child just had behavior issues and just didnt feel like doing the work. I went to my peds office and talked with them about what was going on. They talked to my child alone. They already got their thoughts, and gave me a paper for me to fill out and one for the teacher to fill out. Asking questions about the behavior skills, social skills and so on. Went through all of that turned everything. Went to another appt with the peds and they decieded to put her on Foclin(the timed release one). Never told the school. I wanted to see what happened next. My child had a stomache ache for the first few days, and a loss of appetite, but no weight loss. It made a HUGE difference. My child went from almost failing to passing that year to straight a's with 1 b the next. Sea Island Peds also has a counceling lady who is very good. Good luck and hope all turns out well for you and your child.

Thanks for the info. We have been down that road with the meds. They worked great for awhile now we are struggling again. I will check into the Sea Isl Peds thing.Unfortunately people who don't have a child with this don't understand all the different struggles that come with it. Thanks again for your information.

How old is your child? As I've been looking into this it seems to make a difference.

Just a quick question..who have you talked to within the school? I know at the school that I teach in, the Special Education teachers are willing to talk with parents about ADHD/ADD even if the child does not have an IEP. My extended family also has a great deal of first hand experience with ADD and ADHD. I will ask them who they worked with as the kids were growing up.

I spoke to the teachers. Maybe I have been talking to the wrong ones? Thank you!

Contact a Diet and Nutrition Doctor such as www.coem.com I personally know people who cured their children of ADHD/ADD. I can put you in contact with them. Also, please do not provide your children with prescription medications used on extremely psychotic patients in institutions. For example, they will want to prescribe .25 mg to your child, while at the same time want to prescribe 3 mg to an adult. Imagine the resistance your child will develop at from age 5 to 15? ADHD/ADD drugs is a $$$ racket.

Have you tried to rule out the allergy? I did on my child with ADHD. I kept food diary to see what food brings out certain behaviors. Of course, we did the allergy test also. My kid loves soy products, but soys cause hyperness. Many kids are allergic to soy, eggs, corn, dairy products, and wheat.

Susan Owen's website is a good site to read about how high oxalate food make people to be hyper, aggressive, and etc, depends on people b/c they are on great pain or discomfort.
Susan Owen has a support group in Yahoo.
