NewslettersGas must be cheap.....just look at all the LARGE SUV's doing 80+mph down 170 every morning
As a daily commuter down Rt. 170....I am routinely greeted with drivers who MUST be filthy rich......as they are driving their Escalades, Suburbans, (insert name of your favorite gas guzzler here)at speeds that make my 60mph seem like I am standing still. With all of the acceleration....you would think gas is now .25 cents a gallon.
They share other characteristics as well....
- typically a person with their cell phone glued to their ear
- overly aggressive lane changes...weaving in and out of traffic like it is a slalom race (for those drivers that do not understant this term.....it means a turny type of drive.....i.e...lane to lane changes to avoid other cars...I will try and not use big words next time so you can understand them).
- Usually the same SUV's mentioned above are parked in trailer parks at the end of the day....go figure.
- Hargray vans are notorious......must be in a hurry to install high speed internet somewhere.
I guess I have my priorities all messed up......I thought throwing away money by driving 80MPH in an SUV was a bad thing.....I thought weaving in and out of traffic, endangering others was not good. Obviously I was wrong
So until they slow down and drive with some common sense and courtesy...I will be in the slow lane driving safely.

I am so glad that someone else sees the same thing I see every morning!! They are crazy out there, I feel like they are trying to run me over. The worst time is in the morning about 430 am to 630 am on the way to Bft. But nothing can be done about this because the sherrif dept does the same thing between HHI and Bft (speed), it's like there is no speed limit for anyone out there..
IT'S A SHAME!
Some of those people with those huge SUVs don't realize that the faster you drive, the more gas you use. After all, they bought the stupid things and probably commute back and forth to HHI to be able to make the payment.
AND they probably think they're safer because their cars are so much bigger. Never mind the fact that they're much more likely to flip over, or the fact that if they hit something there's a lot more weight to stop!
So you want to drive a small gas saving vehicle? Great. That's your choice, and I'm all for it. Who am I or anyone else to tell you what to drive? Similarly, if someone wants to drive a large vehicle that uses ten times more gas than yours, also great. As long as you don't make his payments or pay for his gas, why should you care what others drive?
Also, are you saying that Toyota Prius, or whatever hybrid, drivers don't use their cell phones while they drive, or change lanes without looking, or are in a hurry? Are you saying small vwehicle drivers are the only ones with common sense and courtesy? Wow. We must not be driving the same roads. I see all drivers alike doing all kinds of stupid things while they drive regardless what kind of car they drive. Stupid is as Stupid does...PERIOD...There's no clause about what kind of car Stupid drives.
don't tell me what i should drive... this is America. i work hard for my money, and if i want to drive a freakin' tank, i will. if you think you're safe in your sardine-can of a "car", think again. but that's YOUR bid'ness. just keep to the slow lane, and we'll have no problems.
Most of the ones I've seen on the roads also share this characteristic: a McCain for President bumper sticker. (The older ones will have a Bush/Cheney '04 sticker, also).
I saw a Bush '04 sticker on a Prius the other day and almost drove into a ditch!
So now we have the SUV Police working in conjunction with the Political Police. Quit it with your class envy. That's all this is. You're jealous because those people have made enough smart decisions in their lives so they can continue to afford to drive the vehicle they desire regardless of the price of gas instead of having to resort to driving a can of sardines. If you want everybody to be the same, you should move to Cuba.
Why do you care what people drive if you are not paying for their vehicles or their gas?
And if you care so much about who people vote for and what they drive, take a stroll around government housing among all those Cadilac and Escalade owners with expensive sneakers and flat screen tv's and ask them who they'll be voting for next time around. My guess...it ain't McCain, but it ain't cool to put a sticker, not even an Obama sticker, on a mustard Caddy or a pimped out Escalade.
If you are a tax payer, chances are you are paying for their housing and food so that they can afford those nice vehicles and the gas that goes in them and all those other things "poor" prople like them need. Maybe you're complaining about the wrong people.
P.S. Sorry alh. I know I said it was Friday and I didn't want to be confrontational, but ignorance like this makes me jump on my soapbox quicklike.
Wow, you sure can read a lot into a light-hearted post. I don't give a hoot what anyone buys or who pays for it. I was just making an observation and extending a rather frivoulous stereotype.

yes, guilty as charged. Cell use is an important business innovation of which I tend to use in order to effectively use my time thus making more time for bike riding and Gazette gossip.

Guilty as charged. Actually chacane(sp?) would be the more appropriate term over slalom. If more slow pokes adhered to your practice of disciplined right lane usage, I wouldn't have to be executing so many Earnhardt slingshot passes.

Sorry, don't live in a trailer park (scared of tornadoes) but if I did I would still be me just as you would still be you if you lived in a trailer park.

I guess they've also got sh#$ to do.
But I do appreciate the fact that you stick to the slow lane. It's just that I can't drive 55...wait...I may be on to something.
