YRS teachers and paychecks?

any YRS teachers out there that can explain to me what's doin' with the paycheck thing? I'm hearing things that sound really strange...if it was my check, I'd be asking questions BIG TIME! 26 paychecks now going to 27..BUT the checks will not double up during one pay period...if there are only 52 weeks in a year, divide that by 2 (1 every two weeks) you can only get 26....?????? must be using that new math thing... no teacher I've asked can explain it....

There is no extra paycheck. The raise/step increase started in the July 18th check and will be spread out on all other checks. I got a $16 increase in each check since the 18th of July (over last year's base pay). You can only infer what will happen next summer when everyone is on one calendar.

but what's the story on 27 paychecks?

Last year's "contract" was only until July 12 or something. This year's "contract" was to start at the end of July because of the push back of the start date. They changed it to 27 paychecks so we wouldn't miss a paycheck.

Does 365 divided by 26 come out to a whole number - no. That would be very basic math - nothing new here! So there really is more than 52 weeks in a year - once in a while an adjustment is needed to make the calendars (real and pay) line up.

To make the adjustment for starting about two weeks later than previous years - the year round teachers were given 27 checks so there would not be a period of time without pay. Very nice of the BCSD pay office - IMHO.
