Whats wrong with the system
The other day I was waiting in line at Bi-Low behind two young ladies who were having problems with their food stamps/Wic etc.. No Problem I waited for ten minutes while everything got squared away for them. During that time frame, I noticed their children were acting like little heathens (The Adults could care less).
Both of the women were young and pregnant. I just shook my head and left the store. Once I arrived at my 8 year old pick up truck I noticed the women were parked next to me loading their grocery's in a Brand New Pathfinder.
I am sure it was a FRIENDS vehicle or something like that...I am just tired of working for people who just abuse the system and yes I know some people really need it but in this case it made me mad...

Surely, some individuals with nice cars have incidents in their lives which suddenly make them wanting, needing and maybe even qualifying for some sort of government assistance. Should they sell their car immediately after losing employment before applying for and receiving assistance ? Maybe not, and maybe won't. Are there individuals abusing the system ? Sure. There are even people abusing the internet, in some fashion. Even going as far as trying to claim it as their own. Uncanny and dishonest people are surely abusing the system in some manner or another, from sea to shining sea. Now what needs to be done about it and what can actually be done, is another thing. I surely don't think you are 'working for people'. Believe me, I believe in America, you are working for yourself. This is a free enterprise and taxable system. You'll be surprised how much taxes even a consumer pays during the course of a year. Now I don't know how many taxes you do pay, but by the way you described your own vehicle, it suggested that it may not be that much. I suggest you consider trying to update yours, afterall, this is America.
I'll agree with some of your response but I dont agree with your comment about "update my vehicle". I live within my means and in my perception they didn't no matter what the circumstance was and all of us are paying for it. I pay quite a bit in taxes do you ? Meet me at the next blixer and we can compare????? Yes, I can update my vehicle at anytime I please but I can pay for it without the taxpayers helping me put food on my table. As for the other response how can I tell it was a New Car if it didn't have dealer tags ? Get a clue....Like I said before some people need help but it seems like alot of people abuse the system. Yes our taxes go to alot of things but if you don't think you are paying for peoples housing, food etc.. that's your opinion. I guess your fine with Big Gov? Not me
You're not the only person against some things that go on around town. Me too. I bet quite a few other people are against abusing things as well.I don't like abusing anything, including the system. I explained clearly what I meant earlier. You didn't. You appeared to jump to conclusions about their complete status, after a momentary wait in line.I meant not to offend you and I wasn't trying to be funny. My suggestion about a possible purchase of a new vehicle, may have crossed your line. You also said on your latest post that you can update your vehicle anytime.Well, this is appearing to get too personal. This isn't about me, it was you who was maybe too concernned about something that maybe you needed more time to evaluate.Trust me, I pay my share of taxes also. You referenced big government? Well, start with asking Washington to curtail the war machine a bit. Government entitlements geared for social programs are a drop in the bucket I'm told. No big government for me. And no, I don't pay for other peoples living expenses.I pay taxes that are used in many different ways in this country. I pay my own mortgage monthly and taxes yearly. I know what you are saying and believing, but, I don't totally agree with the manner you're using. Meet you ? Sorry, no internet dates or meetings for me either. ..funny...just joking..... I know you said you live within your means. And maybe you do. Maybe they were too.
First of all, I, too, am against people abusing the system, however, I don't think it's fair to judge the young women without knowing all of the information. First of all, as far as I know, with WIC you receive a check with specific items that you can buy for your child. I worked at a grocery store until 2005 and mothers would come in with a check that would say EXACTLY what they were allowed to get for the child (1/2 gallon of milk, 16 oz. cereal, etc). For this reason I have no problem with that particular system. I'm not too familiar with the food stamps system, however, I will recall that it upset me when one particular customer was allowed to use his EBT card to purchase a carton of cigarettes every week.
You failed to mention whether it was the same women in the "BRAND NEW" Pathfinder who you saw in the store. Are you sure it was BRAND new? Unless it had dealer tags on it I'm not sure how you could know that for sure. You also didn't mention how old the kids were. Perhaps the car was purchased prior to the children's birth and the woman still owed too much on the car to trade it in or sell it? Also, it could have been a parents car.
I don't mean to come down hard on you; I just don't think it's fair to judge people without knowing all the details. Sure, she could be using the system. Or, she could have made a mistake and gotten knocked up by a guy who didn't bother to stick around. Suddenly she's left with a child to take care of. It's EXTREMELY hard for single mothers to find employment. First of all they have to have someone who can take care of the kid while they're at work (childcare is expensive) and employers are often reluctant to hire mothers. It shouldn't be that way, but at 90% of the job interviews I've been on I've been asked if I was planning on becoming pregnant in the near future. It's sad, but true.
I, too, hate it when people abuse the system, however, I don't like to jump to conclusions. Heaven forbid I should ever have to rely on "the system," but, if I do, I'd like to think that people gave me the benefit of the doubt.
