The Police Mafia appears not limited to Savannah

Police: Officer fired for demanding free coffee
Fla. cop allegedly threatened workers with slower responses if they refused

It would appear that the blog posted by the Savannah night club owner about how the police extorted the night clubs and similar places to hire off duty coppers at inflated prices might not be the simple rant of a cop-basher.

I know that our LEO's work a tough beat. But they stand to loose a lot of support from the average joe if they keep pulling stunts like this. Violating the law, extorting people for protection, threatening slower response times, making up excuses to pull people over, covering up for civil rights violations is not the way to use the power they are given by society.

There will be huge investigation somewhere of someone's police force that will go nationwide and will severely damage the credibility of cops everywhere.

And Daddyblue - you cannot have justice if the enforcers break the law almost as often as the criminals - the system works off respect - not just power. If officers speeding, tailgating and generally scofflaw at the vehicle code, well, studies have shown that they [and other criminals] will find justification to violate other laws.

I have no doubt that 75% of LEO's are law abiding and respectful of their role in society. However, they fail to make sure that the other 25% are drummed out - instead they get protected - the thin blue line protects the bad ones among them.

Bad guys are bad guys, but the good guys need to keep the bad guys out of their ranks. There are far too many stories like this every since week for it to a rare occurrence.

Corrupt Cops?.......say it isn't so. This must be a result of new 21st century thinking and behavior....LOL

Take a look at our federal government. Are we at a point when corrupt people are actually expected to investigate other people for corruption? Even the corruption in our military......a very sensitive subject to be sure...but if big money is involved, you can bet that the probability of corruption being there is increased. I wonder what could be that profitable?

We ordinary citizens expect the same of Lawyers. If lawyers held their own accountable then perhaps the system would work better. Imagine if all lawyers (whether private practice or on the public dole) were more concerned with justice than with money/winning.

Ad - the difference is that everyone hates and disrespects lawyers, other lawyers are like sharks in the water waiting to sue their brethren, and there is not a lot of covering up to do since the dirty laundry is aired all the time.

Actually, Ad, most lawyers are honest hard working folks, just like cops. But, no one ever cuts us any slack. We are expected to be perfect every time - whereas LEO's get a break all the time the result of their 'hard job.' That and current law makes it almost impossible to discover the facts a claimant needs to prove a case against an officer.

I ask you one question Adracer - do you want a lawyer you pay $350 per hour to be interested in justice, or in winning your case? Thought so. The clients set the tone, not the lawyers.

You're saying that the actions of lawyers are their clients fault? Sooo, why go to law school? Let's all just plan our own course of legal action and cut out the middle man.
C'mon man you're a lawyer, I'd expect a much better excuse than that....blaming the client...please. No one's forcing any lawyer to accept any particular client. Now I know of lawyers who will refuse clients who clearly cannot pay but while it's true that almost all lawyers are very hard working they are almost all motivated by the cha-ching.
Now just so you know, I've written this many times....."everybody hates a lawyer 'till you need one". I workout, run, and ride with some of Beaufort's very good lawyers, and they are all very hard working. But then again they all drive German cars and ride Italian bikes.

all of us have the right to a lawyer and mistakes are made by cops and judges, and clerks... though really, some lawyers are scum. They take the money their clients give them to ruin, just ruin good people because they are doing their jobs. Actually, I hope a couple lawyers I know in particular suffer endless, sleepless, nights for the atrosities they have commited. But, they help defend our rights. Without lawyers our system could just... well, chaos.
As far as the money, law school ain't cheap. And it's not easy. Then there are cost for filing, paying a receptionist, going out of town, carrying that cell, suits... You get the picture.
I know lawyers who are good when they can be to clients who couldn't afford to fight injustices that are being done to them.

Ad - everyone knows that lawyers, like cops, are a microcosm of society - only more so. Cops for the most part like order and follow the rules and deal with the world as they find it. LAwyers try to change the world to their advantage. VERY different focus on the world view.

Yep, lawyers are scum - all of us. We are money grubbing folks at our core.

Though I will tell you that there are many many times that I tell clients that they should look elsewhere for representation since I personally would not represent them because they are selfish, money grubbing worthless scum trying to make money off their or someone else's misfortune.

Without clients, lawyers are eunuchs.
