Senate gets Sanford veto of mini Farmer's Markets

Gov. Mark Sanford returned to the Senate today a resolution that would spend more than $40 million to relocate the state Farmer's Market from its Columbia location to Lexington County and build 10 mini Farmer's Markets around the state.

Sanford used his line item veto authority to delete about $21 million that would be used to build the 10 regional Farmer's Markets, including one in Richland County.

The Senate did not act the veto, delaying action until later. To override the governor, two thirds of the Senate and House must agree to go against Sanford's wishes.

Mr. "VETO" does it again, this is REALLY getting old. VETO VETO VETO VETO ...VETO VETO VETO VETO ...VETO VETO VETO VETO

....VETO VETO VETO VETO ....VETO ...I mean it ...VETO!

That's the only way the guy knows how to "govern."

I think he ran on the slogan "Leadership." He wouldn't know leadeship if it whacked upside his head.

Sounds like the Gov did a good deed by saving YOUR tax dollars. The State Farmers Market in Columbia was fine just the way it is the last time I was there. How much monies are counties and municipalities around the state already paying for Farmer's markets ? Why duplicate? Who on EARTH would protest sensible spending?

...I'm thinking you're not interested in your fruits and veggies.

It seems a little inconvenient for everyone in the state to have to drive to Columbia to go to a farmers market.

I guess in Beaufort we're gonna have eat shrimp everyday... Shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, sautee it. There's, um, shrimp kebabs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo, pan fried, deep fried, stir fried. There's pineapple shrimp and lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich... That's, that's about it.

Yep...that's about it!

Why would the state pay 40 million dollars for an upstate farmers market when our Beaufort county schools are broke and now in real debt? At least the governor has spine enough to fight such waste and used the veto power to save our money.

The real question is why Ceips and the old good boys from the upstate put in the bill, 40 million dollars for a darn farmers market?

Another question would be why Ceips would support such pork, wasted $ in a bill. She should be pitching a fit in Columbia. But you know she has not and will not stand for us when we need her to.

Ceips = Pork

Sanford cuts Pork

...Sanford still spent $19,000,000.00 for a farmers maket in the Columbia area.

However, he vetoed the rest of them.

You want to talk about PORK! Sanford is porking us with the $50,000,000.00 for the phantom conservation land bank monies for all of the Governdevelopnor's cronies.

Never said I drove to Columbia just to go to the Farmer's Market..... you are reaching to make a point. again.
However, when I AM in Columbia for any reason, and it's the right season, the State Farmer's Market is always a stop. Buy local shrimp! Buy SC produce! if you need any recipes, let me know! always glad to share!

What are the names of these "cronies" of the Gov. that stand to benefit, as you claim?

Posted by localshrimp@hot... - Thu, 2008-05-22 19:44

...very long...a good place to start is look at the State Ethics Commission website and look at the list of campaign contributors for Sanford. Developer after Developer after Developer and crony after crony. Then, it's just amazing...these same names, some of them keep popping up in the strangest of places. "Crony" appointed State Board positions, State Agencies, Cabinet Agencies, Governor Cabinet positions, Maritime Commission, Ports Authority, SCDOT, SCDNR, etc... etc... the list goes on and on...crony after crony ...it's really pretty sick.

Do you remember the Port Royal Deal? Do you remember annexation of Bindon Plantion? Do you recall Bill "Crony" Rauch ...remember HE"S THE MAYOR OF BEAUFORT. How about Tom "crony" Davis? There are (12) members of the Savannah Maritime Commission, let's call them the "crony" dozen. How about the SC State Ports Authority, take a look at that mess...the "crony" Ports Authority. Take a look at The SCDNR Natural Resources Board, let's call them the South Carolina Department of Natural "CRONIES".

The list is just way too long, Sanford has been burnin' the midnight oil in the SC "CRONY" Department.

It's a fact, the MORE Land Conservation we get, the MORE DEVELOPMENT we get.

Oh! BTW, I failed to mention "Crony City", the "Conservation Land Bank"

It might be easier to ask those flaking for sanford and his number one crony Tom Davis to list the people that the governor has appointed that did not contribute to his campaign.

That will be a quicker list to compile. It may have a few names on it, but almost all of sanford's appointments have gone to the highest bidder.

That's leadership. Naw, that's good ol boy politics sanfraud/davis style.
