Beaufort's new record company??
Submitted by gamecock06 on Tue, 2008-05-20 11:57.
I was driving down Carteret Street Satruday and noticed a rather large group of black teenagers congregated outside of Attorney Grady Brown's office. When I got closer, I noticed a small sign indicating this was some kind of record label grand opening or something. Does anyone know anything about this? It does not look like a good idea......at all.....

they said they will record your music (anykind)
they also hire for band members, singers, vioce over (cartoons)and other music related posisions
You should check it out if you are interested in anything like that. The guys there all seemed really nice. I think Beaufort has a lot of room to grow a better movie a music industry and I am excited to see how this studio grows :)

Thank you for the information. Judging from what I saw Saturday, I would have never guessed that they offer such a variety of services. I think that will be a great asset to Beaufort's endeavor for recognition in the film industry. I am all for creative expression and completely support anything that encourages young people to be productive and to make positive contributions to society; however, what I saw was a little disturbing. Now, perhaps this is because I can't stand hip-hop music, so I am a little biased, but really, those kids acted as if they were gathered as extras for a rap video. It was disgusting and tacky and inappropriate for that section of town. That is still an historical area and to have people acting the way they were was just sad. If I were just visiting, I would be appalled at the way those kids were acting outside the building and further down Carteret (and, as a native, I was). If they want to celebrate the record company, then more power to them, but someone should have reminded them where they were and that that area is still considered a classy part of downtown, and they should behave accordingly.
As to those who think my original post was "ignorant," allow me to retort. If I were truly an "ignorant" individual, I never would have even bothered trying to find out what this place is and what it's all about. A bunch of black kids jumping around and acting all "gangsta" in front of the building and up and down Carteret -- and please tell me where that image has conjured up any positive connotation, because I cannot think of one -- was enough to compel me to say it did not "look like a good idea." Now, having learned that their services are not centered on hip-hop but on virtually every media and music genre, I reiterate my opinion that this could be a great asset to Beaufort. But, none of what I have learned changes my opinion that what I saw was tacky and a sad misrepresentation of the company.
Oh, Gamecock, please don't characterize all hip-hop as "a bunch of black kids jumping around and acting all 'gangsta.'" Gangsta rap is just one facet of hip-hop. There are also some very positive, socially-conscious artists who do more than rap about women, money and drugs.
Also, white girls like hip-hop too.
because I also drove by and I saw no "jumping" or "acting gangsta."
As for my qualifications for identifying the aforementioned "acting gangsta," I was born and raised in NYC — the Bronx in fact. So that probably means you don't want me frequenting downtown Beaufort either, right?
We actually took my son to the chocolate tree that afternoon. He had his first piece of chocolate and he was jumping around much more than any of the people I saw outside the new music place.
You sure you really drove by the store and you weren't simply reminiscing about your old 2 Live Crew videos that you used to watch?
Best,
Ian
I drove by twice on Saturday, and never saw anybody jumping around. I can't speak for the "acting gangsta". What does that mean anyway?
I saw a celebration that was, granted, slightly noisier that that area of town is used to. Except of course, during water festival, or any of the other myriad downtown celebrations. Some of the behavior exhibited during these celebrations is pretty wild.
Everyone at the recording studio seemed to be conducting themselves in a professional manner. How was it a sad and tacky representation of the company?
Let me go out on a limb here (how many feathers can I ruffle now?) and say that I think your own personal prejudices influenced your post. I saw nothing more than some people celebrating the opening of a business in downtown Beaufort. Just because they were black and were listening to hip hop does not automatically mean that they are "gangsta" or tacky.

as if your post were to reveal this new evil on our streets. So what IF the business was centered around hip hop music? (which is a silly assumption based on the fact that there were black people out front and a generic beat put together by some of the participating artist, I know for a fact that myself and other white people went to the studio that day as well.)
Would youu freak out if the longos had a gallery that had black people humping in it instead of white? Don't be such a square
Maybe they were adutioning for a rap video
Why do you say it doesn't look like a good idea?
Why do you say it doesn't look like a good idea?
not a cut down, but you didn't even reserach the place before you say that it doesn't seem like a good idea.... Are you afraid we will have a place that talented "black teenagers" might get the guidence to pursue carreers they might not have otherwise had unless their family could aford to transport them into a city?
huh? are you replying to Meghan? I think she, I and most of us here agree that post needs to be clarified....why would it NOT be a good idea...?

This wasn't in response to her post :)
