Outrageous insurance renewal - ideas?

Our home insurance has almost tripled since 2005 and we have not had a claim anywhere.

In an effort to save a few hundred, does anyone have ideas for good agents or direct sale companies around here?

Thanks -

During the last year or so, by news reports, homeowners east of the Beaufort River were classified into zone 1 or zone 2 for insurance by the SC Wind and Hail Pool, raising their insurance about $1800. yearly. Beaufort City was considered as being included initially, but then was given a reprieve at that time. The higher rate was the zone closer to the ocean. Some Hilton Head residents were really hit hard with this increased insurance cost. Who knows what may happen come July 1 of this year.

Also, if Beaufort County Council approves the proposed law to delay reassessment of new properties until five years after purchase by a new owner rather than at the regular county resassessment time that will have an impact on available tax money. With the Beaufort County already short on money for services, I think the five year delay is an unfair, and just plain dumb idea.

Of course, SC is running short on funds too.

Watch today's Beaufort Council Council meeting beginning at 4 PM on WJWJC TV if you have at least basic cable service with a number below 70. Hargray carries that channel on about #240, so one needs the digital service with about 300 channels, etc. to see our local government in action in their service area on Lady's Island. Comcast and Charter run it on their basic service.

All home owners in Bft. County feel your pain. We switched about a year ago to Foremost, through Kinghorn. 521-4000 I did alot of research and recieved alot of quotes. They were definitely the best deal for us. Good Luck!

From what I understand, all policies along the coast are up and the closer to the ocean, the more it costs. Many companies were ready to stop writing policies, but the state insurance commission passed the Omnibus bill that requires as many as 6 different policies to cover a home. The legislation helped mediate company's problems and more are now writing policies. It is one of the costs and hazards of living in a storm prone area.

I had Allstate and two years after Katrina, last summer, they jacked my insurance from $1800 to nearly $2800. The woman State Farm agent on Ribaut ignored my email, so I went with Brooke at Andy Couriveau's agency: $1800, and I saved on my car through them as well.

I had my homeowners with State Farm and it went up through the roof, my neighbor had their insurance with a carrier through Kinghorn. We were both referred to Candi Pender at Turbeville Insurance Agency and she saved us both alot of money and gave us BETTER coverage than we had and with a very reputable company. She really knows what she is doing and is great to work with. Call her!
