ABSURDITY AT ITS BEST

Yahoo's daily buzz usually has interesting stories at the top of its Web site. I check the site daily.
But this morning, I watched a video, which left me speechless.
A little league player in Massachusetts was suspended two games but not for something he did, something his mother didn't do.
The child's mother was stuck at work and was unable to make her shift to run the concession stand. According to league rules, the kid sits.
Rules are rules but when I was in little league, parents helped each other out. But the bigger issues is someone else paying for one person's mistake. The story says the parents signed a contract at the beginning of the year agreeing to this rule but an analyst in the video said the contract was illegal. Regardless, the higher ups in that league should be ashamed. The kid has nothing to do with it. He is at the practices and at the games on time.
But there was also a case about a dad being sentenced to six months in jail because his 16-year-old daughter did not complete her court-ordered GED.
I guess from now on, when someone commits murder, the parents or children will be held accountable, not the person performing the act. This is ridiculous at best.

The incident with the player is abominable to say the least. His Mother's job should take priority and he should not pay the price. Someone else could have covered the concession stand or done a trade off with her. The whole situation was handled in a terrible manner. The other situaion you mention is totally different however and I think it was handled correctly. Parents are responsible for the education of their children and if this sort of punishment was handed out more often we would see more success in our schools!

the girl is almost nineteen, she has been going to the classes and just is not at the level to pass yet. also the trouble the girl got into in the first place was while living with her mother. i dont believe it is a fair decision.

19 is a much different situation from the 16 that was originally posted. The age you put her at makes her an adult and responsible for herself.
