How much demand on 93 octane?

Just wondering how much demand there is for 93 octane gasoline? They keep preaching that demand is causing oil prices to rise. I guess those with vehilcles that require that level are using it, but how about others?
I don't know what goes into the different levels of gasoline - never studied it, but I read my car manual to be sure it would run sufficiently on the 87 before I changed from my normal "medium" 89. I know it takes oil to make it all, but it just seems to me that the less used would not increase as often as the others.
I'd like to know how often gas stations have to fill their storage container of 93 octane!

My Harley loves 93 octane and doesn't run so well on lesser grades. But, it gets 58 miles to the gallon and will run 140 miles per hour, so I don't care if it wants Champagne or Crown Royal.

you going to catch the end of bike week?
I'm stuck working this weekend, but it's OK, I've been to all of the major events plenty of times. I actually prefer to ride alone, I like the solitude, it makes for great stress relief. On a Harley unlike other bikes that I have sampled, you sit in it and not on it. You become one with the bike to an extent. So it becomes you and the elements, and there is no feeling on Earth like it. It's more a state of mind and being than an activity.

it's wild. I like riding out on the highway, but just seeing all that still is crazy to me :)
It was fun, but my lower back is still sore from all the riding
The octane rating is the rate of combustion based on a comparison with octane, one of the components of gasoline. 87 is faster burning than 89, which is faster burning that 93. Since most modern engines are tuned and made to run on 87, it is a waste to buy higher octane gas. Engines tuned to 93 and have higher compression will run better on 93 and will "ping" with 87. The ping is caused by premature combustion before the cylinder is at the top of its cycle and it is not as efficient and can actually damage the engine. The detergents in all three are the same.
If you hear pinging while accelerating or going up a bridge, you should move up in octane or have your engine checked.
I hate it when that happens. LOL
And like TGS stated newer Harleys are engineered to run on 93 Octane. I tried 89 and 87, in my Harley and it does not like it either.
Good to know this info since we'll be purchasing a Harley when my husband returns from Afghanistan.
..the fact that motorcycle tanks aren't nearly as large a cars or trucks. So.. the difference really isn't that great.
We have a sport bike that doesn't like anything but race fuel but will handle the 93. Nothing below though.
I would venture to say that most people on bikes would be using 93. If they aren't they should be in most cases. Seeings how gas prices are so high I am seeing more and more people riding. Kinda like a double edge sword huh?
