PACT is dead.....
Just moments ago, the South Carolina Senate unanimously approved House Bill 4662. This is the bill to reform the Accountability Act and reflects the requests of parents and teachers across the state to replace the PACT test and to make other revisions to the accountability system.
The revisions to the statute include the recommendations from the task forces on assessment, accountability, and accreditation and from input Dr. Rex has received at town hall meetings and other events since he took office. Today's vote accomplishes a major portion of one of the goals set by Dr. Rex for the South Carolina Department of Education--to reform accountability. It is a great day for education in South Carolina!
The bill will go to conference committee next and then to the Governor
for his signature.

Finally something is being done at the state level. I just hope it gets past the governor.
Don't hold your breath! This is the governor whose interest in public education extends to promoting the use of public money for private schools through voucher legislation. This is the governor who appoints a home schooler to the SC Board of Education (If I am not mistaken, she is now Chairperson). This is the governor whose children attend private schools where academic accountability is not subject to mandated testing.
