Two women die after cement-truck wreck

Two women have died after a cement truck crashed into the car they were in and filled it with cement, authorities said.

The women were in the front seat of a Honda that abruptly changed lanes in front of the cement truck Monday afternoon, Highway Patrol Cpl. Paul Brouthers told The (Charleston) SC Post and Courier.

The truck couldn’t stop and crashed into the Honda, landing on top of the car, Brouthers said.

The car was then filled with cement, and it took 20 rescuers with shovels to dig out the women, who then had to be cut from the car, said Pete Rogers with the Charleston Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad.

A third woman in the car was taken to the hospital in critical condition, troopers said.
