A friend from Hilton Head just informed me that there was an article in their Friday paper that Dr. Briggs, one of the school district's senior administrators, is leaving the school district to be Executive Director of the Hilton Head Symphony. I know that Dr. Briggs was highly respected by the Hilton Head community and the folks she worked with in the district as a dedicated, fair, and hard working educator. Apparently the Symphony position was an attractive alternative to some major issues she had with the treatment and philosophical differences she and others are experiencing with the new administration. This seems to be consistant with what I am hearing from my friends who are educators in the district who also say several other of our best educators are looking outside the district. I hope the School Board is paying attention and asking questions. The district can ill afford to lose top-notch educators like Dr. Briggs.
