Sox appeal

I know why I have an affinity for the Red Sox – eight years living in Massachusetts, four of them in Boston – but why do you?
I've spotted a lot of Red Sox hats, t-shirts and jerseys in Beaufort. Especially at A Taste of Beaufort. Not that I'm complaining, but why the Sox? Is Beaufort full of ex-Bostonians like me or just a bunch of masochists?

I spent 24 of my 36 years in Boston (college included) before being whisked away by my Marine husband. I wear my Sox stuff with pride, through thick and thin no matter where we live! From Florida to Mississippi to Texas to California to North Carolina to South Carolina, it's always a great conversation starter when I wear my Sox gear someplace other than Boston. You'll find quite a few New England transplants here in the Lowcountry, not just from MA but from Maine, NH, RI and event CT (those who aren't Yankees fans -BOOO!) So, to answer your question, Meghann, I think there are more "transplanted" ex-Bostonians and New Englanders here in Beaufort than you think! Should we have a pep rally?? :)
I think we might have to. My next question was going to be, "Where are the best bars to catch a game at?"
Luther's, by far. It's a great way to strike up conversations with people. However, ask them to turn up the volume of the game you are watching. In the past, I'd hear cheers, look up and it was a commercial. It's quite disorienting.
Luther's is great and is owned by a friend of mine, I love the place. But for games of any kind, it's a tie between Rosie O'Grady's and Keith's Place. Lots of screens, larger screens, good volume, great food, and other activities that Luther's doesn't have room for.
I agree TGS.. I love Luthers but Keiths is better suited for the games.
Go Sawx!
No. No. No.
A thousand times no to the Sox Nation.
The simple answer is the guys that play at "The Ted" the Atlanta Braves.
The guys and gals with the sox stuff are just more yankee invaders
Pennywise, be careful how close to put "Yankee" to "Red Sox."
Red Sox Nation evolved naturally, and organically, BEFORE it became absorbed into the corporate borg of Larry Lupachino's empire.
At least we are not desperate to invent a competitor to RSN called 'Yankee Universe' to make it seem like the Yankees are all knowing and all seeing across the Universe [apologies to John Lennon].
George Steinbrenner might have been, well, George Steinbrenner, but at least he respected the game of baseball. His son is a total butthead. Just because the Red Sox have the nation, the Yankees do not need the universe.
And I agree, Yankees and Red Sox should not be seen in the same sentence unless the sentence reads: "Red Sox Sweep Yankees."
1. The Red Sox are awesome. Obviously.
2. Um, they won last year. Check the hat and see how new it looks. Mine is about to fall apart and stained from sweat and frustration. Gladly.
There I did it, all in one sentence.
Pray tell, what next a plea to wear the stained and tattered Cubbies garb?
There is nothing North of Richmond worth mentioning here. Yankees, Sox (Black, White, Green), Cubs, Mets you name em there all the same.
Fairweather Johnson.
It's because a lot of people just follow the team that wins. It's like a fashion trend. They go with what's popular. 20 years ago when I moved here, there were no Braves fans around until the mid 90's, but I too have noticed that there are many more Boston Red Socks fans now and very few Atlanta Braves. The didn't move. They just replaced the worn out tshirt and had with a new one from a new team. Not many people are really passionate about their team, so it's easy to cheer for the next big team. By the way, Go Yankees, since 1969.
Go Yanks since 1958 win or lose!
While I don't agree with your choice of teams, I do respect anyone who sticks with a team win or lose.
