Blog entry deleted

The blog entry about the alleged incidents at Shell Point Elementary has been removed. We don't doubt the seriousness of what the poster said happened, but without confirmation from the school or law enforcement, there is a risk that someone who is completely innocent could be wrongly implicated. If this proceeds through the courts, we'll treat it as a news story in the Gazette.
I realize that not everyone will agree with this decision, but for now all we have is one person's version of what happened. That's dangerous territory, even on the blogs.

prpd, and bcso both have reports on what happend, it would be hard to get any info, considering you dont have any thing but the schools name .
N/M
Good call. The whole thing sounded suspect.
call it what you will , its all done and over with , im not getting any thing, i dont want to sue. i just want my kids outta their. this happend over 4 months ago. i seemed to have upset some people , thats why i kept my mouth shut last time , i just dont care any more, ive got nothing to hide. if any thing was gonna be done about it , it would have allready been done .
What sounds so suspect about it? I also know of this situation. The mother is telling the truth. Just because she's not as well spoken as you and is angry, scared, frustrated and confused and needing to vent, you want to accuse her of not being truthful. This is her child that was abused, it is real and it is true, so be a little respectful of what went on in her and her childrens lives. I guess someone at the school knows someone at the Gazette so the blog is no more. Here is another case of the 'good ole boys in Beaufort again. I've lived here all my life and it happens time and time again. Oh, and by the way Steve, the only people hurt was the child and her family. No one else was even mentioned.
It may be true; it may not. People can write whatever they want on here: fiction or nonfiction. The mother is obviously passive, not dogged like I am. I would not put it past anyone to cover up such an incident for PR sake, but I also know that people who get mad will take revenge for a perceived wrong---i.e. a teacher or principal who ticks them off. Let's just say that had that been my child, *I* would have taken action until I got results.
i am mad,i was to passive , to little to late , i just want my kids outa their, i thought that was the greatest school my kids could go to up untill "it" happend.. my present issue may not be because of the past one , but it sure reminds me of how much i want them out, and if this is all it takes to get them out , i should've done it sooner
Sadly, here in Beaufort there is a long-standing situation of our schools and their students being connected to a "clique" system.
As local596 has just posted, we still have the "good ole boys" in Beaufort with its continuing consideration and favoritism being shown towards SOME residents and their children. We also have the situation where an TEACHER and any family involved usually get the same type of favoritism and consideration from our school district.
The remaining families and their children just have to swing with the tide, not make too many waves or their kids will usually suffer. Teachers don't like complaining parents.
Elida.. It's been awhile since I've agreed with you. Here it goes.. I agree!! I had the WORST time with my child @ Whale Branch Middle! I'm glad to see Bill gone...
Once again, you attack teachers as the military when you are guessing. I didn't have favoritism when I went with a LAWYER to meet with Herman to get out of WBMS after the PACT cheating fiasco because the principal wouldn't let me transfer!!

This is true, as when I went to Battery Creek, I was attacked by a teacher at TLC's student. And when I went to defend myself, I was the one that got held back by the hall monitors. I never got to lay a finger on the man, and he never got in any kind of trouble at all. The only thing that happened to him was that he had to write a letter apologizing to me for embarassing me in front of my friends. This letter was supposed to be given to me out in the public, as ordered by an assistant principal, so that he would be embarassed as I was. However, one of his buddy buddy hall monitor friends pulled me out of class one day and handed it to me in the hall way FOR him. Our wonderous school board even refused to do anything. The whole reason that I was attacked was because I am gay, and he was one of those jock football players. He was a senior and the team needed him and it just so happen to be homecoming. Thats why the school didnt bother doing anything to him. Schools around here often "overlook" things when its inconvient for them for them not to.
I dont doubt this woman and her experience at Shell Point. I went to SP as a child, and luckily never faced anything like this. However I dont see why the blog was taken down as this is a free and open forum. Of cource certain rules apply, but she mentioned nobody by name but the school, which is public and she should be able to do. She didnt curse at anybody or even get hostile towards other members on the blogs here. So why was the blog taken down? You had better believe that if my child was assulted and nothing was done about it, I would let EVERYBODY and their mom, dad, niece, nephew and even their third cousin know. To have the school just brush off the issue like a non issue to them is outrageous, and like I said, I know the feeling. Its a little different when its a small child we are talking about though. From now on the child has to grow up with the fear of having that happen again, and knowledge and experience of not only the event, but of ordeals in the doctor's office too, for the rest of her life. And for what? To have her mom's blog deleted off of the Beaufort Gazette. Way to support your readers guy's, you're awesome!
......I was attacked by a teacher.......The whole reason that I was attacked was because I am gay, and he was one of those jock football players. He was a senior.........
Things are tough when your attacker has the ability to transform himself in a matter of seconds.

If you didnt erase part of what I typed, it said that I was attacked by a teacher at TCL's student. Meaning one of the teachers at TCL had a student at Battery Creek, and that student attacked me.
Things are tough when your eyes have the ability to blend sentences. Get some glasses.
I'm glad my kids are in other schools. Normally, I wouldn't agree with Lisa2 on much of anything, but that was the most convoluted sentence I've ever seen. I don't think it's a matter of glasses. More like an interpreter to explain what you meant.

Was the jock that beat you up the son of a teacher from TCL? If so, do I get a prize?
Your wonderful prize package consisting of complete decipherable sentences is in the mail to you.
Your first post did not make any sense to me. I pondered over "a teacher at TCL's student" probably 2-3 times until I gave up and just read the rest of the post. Your post here makes what you were trying to say more understandable.
It's a good thing nobody copied the blog huh?
it wouldnt matter if any one did, the school was the only thing brought up that would matter, im sure steve has some coppies, but theirs such thing as freedom of speach, whats the diffrence in saying anything now , then saying it when it happend ? it doesnt change what happend

I have to agree with you here. I see no reason in why the blog was deleted. Its no different than going on here and complaining about a bad experience at Wal Mart. As I'm sure many people have. But the sad thing is, our tax dollars go towards the schools. Not only that but it also goes towards our school board, and its directors. And when they turn a blind eye to us and our issues like this, it can become very frustrating, I know. It often seems like they are there for their own good and not ours. Shell Point is a public school, and anything can and should be said about it any and everywhere, without reprocussion. This is America, we do have freedom of speach.

Actually, "this" is the Beaufort Gazette Blog. The paper owns the blog and admin has complete control over what is allowed to stay here. Is that so hard to understand?
BTW, did you read the user agreement? I bet you were too busy being "held back" from defending yourself against wild and dangerous jocks to read it, right?

Just because I'm on a blog doesnt mean that my constitutional rights are suspended. True they can delete what they want, but you still have the right to say what you want.
I just dont see the point in deleting the blog.
I have a question for you Joseph. Do you have a MySpace or Facebook site? Most kids do, so here is my question to you. If I were to go on to YOUR MySpace page and post cruel and hateful remarks regarding your sexual orientation, would I have the right to say that, and would you leave it up for all to see or would you censor it and delete it??

No, you don't.
You have the right to type whatever you want, but don't expect it to stay on this site if we consider it inappropriate.
The previous suggestion was a good one: Create your own Web site and set up your own guidelines for what is appropriate content and what isn't. Then you make the call on what stays and what goes. That's what we've done here, and when someone posts something that we consider inappropriate, it's going to come down. In your house, you make the rules. In our house, we make the rules. And right now, you're in our house.
...you beat me. *whines*
OK, we can see the connection that the Gazette has and the ownership it flexes over the BG Blog and comments made on it. Now answer this does a blogger have the right to erase the comments of others just because they do not garee with them? Would the BG consider that infringing on someone freedoms?
...the BG wanted you to be able to erase someone elses writings there would be a feature for it.
As far as I have seen there is no such feature so I am a bit confused by the question.
I think what he/she meant was if I started a blog and didn't like what someone posted, would it be an infringement on their rights if I deleted the blog, being the BG owns the site I am just a guest. If the BG did't delete the blog do I have a right to delete it if I started it?
If you start a blog or post a response to another blog, you have the ability to delete your post. The right? That's a grayer issue. My thoughts are that if you post something, you should be prepared to deal with the responses and leave it on the site.
I responded to a post yesterday by savethelowcountry, who had accused the Gazette of bias against a political candidate he/she favors. I disputed that, and later that morning the entire blog was gone. I didn't delete it. We can't prevent someone from deleting their own blog, but they have the ability to do so.
Ok, if deleating a post simply because you have the ability due to a technical glitch and the fact that you don't like the responses that others posted in response in in that Gray area and would probably be considered inconsiderate towards other Blog users right? Then why has the BG allowed Undercoverbrother to repeatedly do exactly that after several formal complaints to the BG Editors. It seems to me (us) that UCB was spreading the mistrust and paranoia that the BG relies on to keep readers so the complaints went ignored and you banned Blueline for calling UCB a "profane" name after the gazette did nothing. I've always found that most rules are selectively enforced and gray area is the predominant color in journalism. It's ok for a cop to give a warning to a speeder who shows regret and concern for a minor speeding violation but it's not ok when a local standard (the BG) to allow some minor assaults on the right to free speach and selectively enforce thier own policies. Gray areas are directly proportional to the amount of gray matter one uses to define right from wrong.
...see... I was only smart for a few seconds there... already gone. Darn it.
Yes, actually it does.
The BG owns this particular real estate we all camp out on here in cyberspace. They pay the bill for the domain registration, the storage and the bandwidth used. That means that you only have the freedom the owner wishes to give you in their little world. (Or in this case the folks the owner has appointed)
Freedom of speech means jack when you visit someone else's website. If you want total freedom of speech I would suggest GoDaddy.com, the first step in purchasing your own real estate in cyberspace.
That was a "most excellent" post!! I owe you one at our next Blogmixer!!
...it isn't often people stumble into my realm of knowledge. I spent many years at Florida State learning about all this mess. So... I kinda like to share my knowledge when it is needed. :) Consider it my public service for the week.
it doesnt matter to me if any thing can be proven or not , it still doesnt change the fact that i should have been able to take my kids out of that school , if not for that, then just the simple reason i dont want them there.
I am glad that the blog was deleted. People use the blogs to hide behind; and think that it is a forum to embarrass or belittle people, businesses, agencies and obviously schools. Sounds to me like "Blue" was using the blogs to get her children out of a school that cares about education. To get an education you need to be IN school! The schools have rules that they have to legally follow, and if you are not following the rules, you need to pay the consiquences.
I know people from each of the mentioned agencies, SPES, BCSO, PRPD and Hope Haven. I know that they all have the children best interest at heart, and will do what is deemed necessary to keep them safe and out of harms way. Maybe Blue should move to a school zone that she feels will better serve her and her children.

i own my house , i should'nt have to sell my home and move just to get my children in a driffrent school , whats wrong with using any means nessicary , excuse me if i spelled something wrong, to have my children taken out of that school , im not hiding behind any thing the school knows excatly who i am , i posted everything knowing this. if what happend is not enough to get them out , i dont know what is , like i said earlier , whats going on now might now have any thing to do with what happed in december , but its enough for me to want my kids outa that school even more now. i shared an experince in my life hoping i would get some results, and it did. good or bad i got my point across that i want them out of the school. sorry if you dont agree with it but i realy dont care.
and just for the record i think shell point is a great school, education wise , but that still doesnt make me want to keep them their
Blu8u4it, you stated in the original blog that the school had notified you that paperwork was being sent home for you to transfer you child. The matter is done and overwith... let it drop. You are beating a dead horse.

Don't make assumptions Ms. Lady. I'm sure you know what they say about assumptions.
Here we have this alleged heinous crime and no UCB to blow the cover off it. Now I realize that there's nothing to be cut and pasted here but nonetheless he is the self proclaimed UnderCover Brother. Come out and play Bro and solve this one for us.
i now have all the paper work and cooperation i need to transfer my children to another school , i thank every one for responding.what im saying is being herd now, its sad that i had to go to these extreems to get what i wanted done, the meeting for educational neglect was also canceled , hmmm..?? i wonder why. but either way im now thankfull we can start moving on with our lifes. to all the critics , do you think i got such swift results , if nothing had happend . over 400 people have read these blogs,so you decide for yourselfs, im done with all this bloging stuff

to you and your kids. I hope everything works out for ya'll.
I think you did the right thing by coming here. It's hard to get people to understand how this kind of thing turns everything around for not only the victim, but everyone involved (the family, friends...)
You got what you needed and it sounds like everything else is working it's way out.Best wishes
Regarding the cancellation of the "meeting for educational neglect," I imagine the powers that be decided the issue resolved with the transfer in process so no meeting was required. Regardless of why they skipped on the meeting, minutes for such meetings are taken and this produces living documents. If such documents address negative issues, our society's leaders usually prefer they be avoided at all costs.
Same thing happens when we lowly folks apply for our next jobs after having been abused physically/mentally by previous employers with the advice to the applicant being to avoid discussing negative matters with our next potential employers. Sadly, this process is more often a one-way street instead of two-way. When the potential employer talks candidly with the previous employer, the previous employer often opens up in an anonymous, non-written fashion over the phone and addresses whatever incident(s) they wish without any concern for retroactive recourse by the applicant. With the passing of time, credibility on the part of the applicant is significanly reduced.
Likewise, when public bodies are able to cover-up negative matters in one fashion or another, the credibility of the originating complaint essentially becomes worthless. With the transfer in process and the mood of your public denouncement clearly lightened, your complaint is simply in the motion of dying at this stage. No public meeting, no minutes of negative discussions, no reports of potentially illegal matters to higher ups.....simply a transfer and nothing else for the powers that be.
But it seems that your spelling comes and goes. Glad you got your kids from that school. The next time something really bad happens, then write about it here as I like to hear about the pains and problems of others.
