Is it the same Tom Davis?
Submitted by babsfeather on Sat, 2008-04-26 07:43.
If you missed my blog on April 19th (http://www2.beaufortgazette.com/blogs/post/19191), I did a little more sleuthing. It seems I'm not the only one who remembers a man by the name of Tom Davis spending a lot of time hanging around in Five Points with a well-known newspaper journalist. A couple other people who lived in Five Points at the time said I was not mistaken in my understanding of what was going on. And soon after all this, our gentleman suddenly left Columbia and returned to Beaufort for a short while. Hardly a mystery, I'd say! I see that some previous comment-writers disapproved of my "meddling," but this is fair game. I'm just excited that I'm the one who figured it out! :)

Just how many screen names does Randy Bates have?
Hey blog again when you discover he was buying her sexy lingerie from Bits of Lace.
I wouldn't know Randy Bates if he showed up at my door. I'm disinterested in which party wins the house seat.
I happen to be a very staunch supporter of Senator Ceips and have all the confidence in the world in her capabilities. I am however quite disgusted with other supporters of hers and the supporters of others in any campaign who would stoop to the level illustrated by the original blog here. I don't care who these people are or who they support, their actions are reprehensible! Elections should be based upon issues and performance and not upon these ridiculous smear tactics. How could anyone possibly imagine that these excapades will help the candidate they are trying to support? I wish that people like babsfeather would just take their sick minds and sinister tactics elsewhere. It nauseates me to read their BS!
Sen Ceips is responsible for what her hired hands, Randy Bates and Rod Shealy do. They are her paid employees, she can stop them and their smear tactics any time she chooses to. But I doubt we will see that happen, as she is not a person of integrity, and birds of a feather DO flock together.
Again, the original post here is nothing more than her campaign minions trying to start a whisper campaign that might offset her own pathetic moral misdeeds. Get rid of her!
LS,
Your post is no less insulting and mindless than the original one posted by babsfeather. You present even more negativity to the thread by calling names and pointing fingers with no proof. This sort of crap needs to stop. You don't know that Bates, Shealy, or the Senator have any knowledge or involvement with this post. You suspect it, but you don't know it! You obviously don't like the Senator, and you are entitled to your opinion. You belittle yourself however each time that you jump on the proverbial bandwagon with your own thoughtless, unfounded, and demeaning remarks. It appears that your beef with the Senator is personal and has little to do with much more. Why not make a constructive comment about someone that you do support rather than continually lowering yourself to the level of whoever started this blog?
LS,
"It appears that your beef with the Senator is personal"
Sen. Ceips "personally" represents all the citizens of Beaufort but will only involve herself with the big issues that garner media attention. Woe to the average joe who has a problem with the State. I "personally" had a problem with a State entity and contacted every representative, House and Senate, Fed and State. The only one who did not reply was Sen. Ceips. It has been suggested that her e-mail address was listed wrong. I have two problems with this. The same e-mail address I used is still listed and if it is wrong then she either doesn't care to be contacted or she has a serious problem with attention to details. Either way it does not speak well for her.
TW,
It was me who informed you about the e-mail address. It wasn't a suggestion, I knew it to be a fact. The state website has it as CEIPS@scsenate.org , I have it as Ceips@scsenate.org. In many cases e-mail addresses are case sensitive. there has been a change though, the original incorrect address was CCeips@scsenate.org. Somebody has corrected that, but it may still be wrong. The Senator has no control over the state website or those who maintain it. I am certain that she has to go through several levels of channels to get anything done there. And, from the generally poor design and functionality of that site overall, I would say that those who do work on it aren't very good.
Why not try to call her, she has phones here and in Columbia. I've personally seen her spend a lot of time working by telephone to help with the concerns of many of her constituents, and I never witnessed any that would have qualified for media coverage. Nor were these people big campaign contributors. Hopefully it will work for you. Did any of the replies you got from others help you at all?(serious concerned question, not sarcasm)
The "personage" of Catherine Ceips represents all of the citizens of District 46 (not just Beaufort) in a "professional" capacity as their Senator. That is not the same as "personal". It would be foolish for us to think that any of us could be on a personal level with any political representive at any level. It simply isn't possible for someone in those positions to know everyone.
To clarify the meaning of my comment to LS, I interpret that he has a personal agenda. Based upon his continuing unfounded assaults on the Senator I would say that he feels that she has personally hurt him at some point in the past. Perhaps he blames her for something that went wrong in his life. Or possibly it was something of his own doing and he just needs somewhere to place the blame. Who knows, but it does come off as being personal.
I try not to give much weight to anything he says under of any of his anonymous usernames. In that respect he is no different than babsfeather who started this present nonsense. As long as people like them hide behind anonymity their words have no substance. And in both cases what they spew is unsubstanciated gossip and nothing more. I don't know your identity either, but what you have issues with are first party and invole you, so there is justification for your statements. That I can respect. My original post on this thread was aimed at our new feathered friend even though her comments are aimed at hurting what is the opposition from my point of view. Fair is fair! But my ire is aimed at everyone at every level who practices such cheap and childish tactics. Political elections are a mess these days, more and more like a circus. And it is these sorts of antics that create much of that atmosphere. Elections are serious and should conducted more professionally and courteously. Not just this one, but all of them. Nobody knows who babs is (except babs), nobody else including LS (who has most likely forgotten his own true identity)knows for sure that babs has any direct connection to the Senator. Nobody knows for sure if anyone slept with anyone else unless they witnessed it directly. Nobody has provided any factual basis for most of the allegations against any of the candidates. Until they can, their comments are schoolyard gossip and nothing more regardless what what candidate they are skewering. And if they do find facts, they should add credence to their statements by identifying themselves. We all know who Catherine Ceips and Tom Davis are, if they are to be accused, at least allow them to face their accuser. I just think it's time to cut the negativity from all sources, large and small. It's time to deal with the issues and on the job performance, because in the end that is all that really counts.
TGS, you and I may not always share the same view on various topics but I must say that you seem to be the only person in Ceip's camp offering positive aspects of her service and doing so in a way that is not offensive. She would be well served by using folks such as yourself instead of the dirt bags she pays for doing her slime ball campaigning. I probably will not vote for her, no I can safely say I won't vote for her, but your approach to politics is far better than anything any of her other minions has produced.
let taxpayers pay for the letter Shealy sent out. Surely her office transcribed, typed, stuffed in an envelope, and paid the postage to mail his letter that recently went out requesting Tom Davis take a polygraph.
This is the kind of stuff that "ticks" me off. If you want to have a playground fight then do it on your own time, and with your own money. That was a huge waste of taxpayer's money.
That is WHAT'S wrong with politics - Too many games, and nobody gives a rat's a@@ about spending.

I couldn't agree more! Your statement here is right on point and illustrates exactly what I have been saying. Politics has always been a dirty business in many aspects, and that trend should change. It isn't limited to any one candidate or public official, it's universal. It also isn't limited to official members of any campaign stafss, the same practice is conducted by many unsolicited and sometimes unknown supporters who aren't connected to the campaigns at all.
As for taxpayer money being used to pay for the infamous letter, I don't think so. That would be blatantly illegal and easilly traceable. The Senator isn't stupid by any means, and would not risk her career or more by doing such a stupid thing.
the Shealy letter was paid by that office (labor and postage to distribute).
It was mailed with a permit number. If you or I have bulk mail, we don't get a permit number. I tried to track down who the number belonged to, but the Columbia Post Offices that I called can't release that information. I'm sure the "right" person could find out for sure. I just decided to give up because I know it was generated by that office, and paid by you and me!
I am not trying to bad-mouth Ceips nor gain points for Davis; I am just sick and tired of the games, and at our expense.
There are so many things that need attention in this state, and it will take time, money and effort to correct them. It is a waste of all three to generate a letter that tries to discredit an opponent.

I don't think that Mrs. Ceips would use her official governmental postage allowance to do a mass mailing for Randy Bates. If I had to wager on where the letter was generated, edited, stuffed and mailed, I would bet it was from her Campaign Office and therefore only funds from her supporters paid for that mailing. I have not decided which candidate I will support yet, so this is not and endorsement, just a different train of thought.
Sassyone,
I do have a bulk mail permit and it does have a number. Rod Shealy's office may have one as well, I don't know. I do know however that most of those mailbox centers have them, and for a fee you can have your bulk mail sent from them rather easily. I too am sick and tired of political games, and it really doesn't matter which candidate any of us prefers, if we stick together on the issue of negative and dirty politics, we can unite and hopefully fix the problem.
Sorry, double post.
Rod Shealy's smarmy letter would have had more impact if it made the offer of Shealy, Bates AND Ceips all taking the lie detector test. Of course, that will never happen because it would prove beyond a doubt that Ceips had knowledge of the scam her handpicked team of employees had cooked up.
Character, character, character. It counts.
Yes, Ceips is lucky to have such an ardent supporter in TopGunscooter. He seems to be a club of one, though.
LS,
You might want to revisitt my initial response to this thread. I called foul about what I felt to be a scumbag comment about Tom Davis, not the Senator. I am indeed an ardent supporter of the Senator, and I know for a fact that there are many many other members of that club, I am certainly not alone.
As I have clearly stated, my disgust is with the process in general and at all levels of politics. I include not only politicians and their staff members but also overzealous private citizens. I feel it is time to reform the process and deal with issues and performance in office. What does or does not go on after work is none of my business or anyone elses unless it specifically affects job performance. It's time to stop the "he said she said" BS and run elections that focus on electing someone who will work hard for us. I am reminded of the Clinton/Lewinski fiasco. I am certainly no fan of the Clintons, but it frankly didn't bother me when he was caught in the closet. Think about it, that man had his finger on the nuclear trigger 24/7 and was potentially the most dangerous human on the planet. I for one am glad that he wasn't sexually frustrated. It seems ludicrous to me that we can even think about placing an elected official in office based upon which candidate may or may not have had an affair, which had the most affairs, or whose was the most immoral. That sort of logic takes our focus away from the real issues and the true abilities of the candidates to do the job for us.
I don't care for all of this "affair" talk and I think those who continue are simply lowering their own standards. I also do not like the whole "illegal alien" painter BS. If indeed a neighbor alerted Mr. Bates to that situation I believe that the appropriate response would have been to advise that neighbor to contact the proper authorities. I can certainly believe that a legal painting contractor might indeed report such an incident, such practices take income from his table. But if true it should have been handled differently. On the other hand, I've been around Randy Bates enough to know that he is a highly intelligent individual and that he thinks out everything he says or does very carefully. I could always be wrong, but I doubt that he would be dumb enough to create a false scenario and then put himself in the crosshairs by taking action on it himself. I believe that if it had been a set up that it would have been carried out by somebody outside of the Senator's inner circle. I don't suppose we will ever know unless the man in the photo is found and interviewed. A polygraph of anyone is not the answer, those machines aren't reliable and can be beaten. Sodium Pentathol or Scopolamine perhaps?
The bottom line is that the process is fouled by negativity when we should focus on positivity. There are indeed many professional scumbags who work in or run political campaigns. They are paid to get a candidate elected, and in most cases the candidate remains insulated and truly has no knowledge of the dirty tricks that are played. This happens in most campaigns and is nothing unique to any single one. It is however disgusting and needs to change. The other thing that needs to change is the practice of questioning the integrity or actions of another in public from an anonymous posture. I can't think of anything lower or more despicable.
TGS, you are a self-proclaimed ardent supporter of Catherine Ceips. Thus, your posts are seen as no more than pro-Ceips propaganda.
Randy Bates is a scumbag. period. Yes, this is my personal opinion. I came to this conclusion by reading the court documents about him that surfaced when he ran for the House. No rumor or innuendo. court documents.
Birds of a feather............Ceips, Shealy, Bates.
I have for her is
Just got this one.
That is a valid email for her but not her official state email. I'm not sure that would get the necessary response.

I haven't yet recieved a response from any of them. This address, mind you, came inside of a letter she sent me as a "supporter". I want to be a supporter, having women as smart as she is in office, makes me feel better. But... you know, I'll see what happens.
I do support Catherine but as stated before, I posted to this thread in defense of Tom Davis and more strongly against vile and negative campaign tactics. Tactics employed by campaigns, campaign workers, candidates, and childish private citizens who press their own agenda. All I have asked for here is fair play. There was one and only one story about Randy Bates last year that had any basis in fact whatsoever. Well, two if you count the one about him bringing a Nazi to school when he was in High School (a very innocent school assignment by the way if taken in context). Yet, you and several of your other aliases along with a few friends Googled his name, and then posted every piece of unrelated trash ever published about any Randy Bates worldwide and credited it to our local candidate. "COURT DOCUMENTS" relating to several hundred different people who weren't related to our Randy Bates in any way!
