I believe in a woman's right to choose if she should bear a child or not, but I also believe in restrictions on abortion practices. Barack Obama does NOT. He goes so far as to have unbridled support even of PARTIAL BIRTH abortion.
This is a procedure, performed in late-term pregnancies, where a fetus is pulled from the birth canal by its legs. The head of the child is left inside the birth canal, a hole is punched into the baby's skull and an instrument is inserted to suck out its brains. This is done even as the child is breathing, his heart is beating and he is kicking and flailing. Many babies that are destroyed this way are past the point at which they are viable outside the womb.
When the Congress/Senate voted on the ban on the henious practice of partial birth abortions, Obama was one of only five senators who voted against the measure.
Obama has stated that a fetus that is born alive should be left unattended to die.
In February 2004, Barack Obama's wife, Michelle, sent a fund-raising letter with the 'alarming news' that 'right-wing politicians' had passed a law stopping doctors from stabbing partially -born babies in the skull with scissors, suctioning out their brains and crushing their skulls.
Michelle called partial-birth abortion 'a legitimate medical procedure,' and wouldn't supporters please pay $150 to attend a luncheon for her husband, who would fight against 'cynical ploys' to stop it?
He also defended the rights of hospitals in Illinois to let children die outside the womb by repeatedly opposing the Born Alive Infant Protection Act against infanticide and he is against parental notification
In 2003, as chairman of the next Senate committee to which the Born Alive Infants Protection Act was sent, Obama prevented it from even getting a hearing. The Born Alive Infants protection Act, by the way, stated that all live-born babies were guaranteed the same constitutional right to equal protection, whether or not they were wanted.

In 1997, Obama twice voted “present” on an Illinois partial-birth abortion ban.
Twice, Obama voted against bills prohibiting tax funding of abortions.

Here's an interesting article that includes comments by Jill Stanek, an Illinois nurse who testified in Congress on behalf of BAIPA, the Born Alive Infant Protection Act, after witnessing live babies being left in the dirty linen closet to die.
