On Thursday, John Daly announced his recreational vehicle will be making tracks back to Hilton Head Island for the upcoming Verizon Heritage golf tournament. With the likes of Daly and blue-collar favorites Boo Weekley and Tommy “Two Gloves” Gainy running around Harbour Town, this year's Heritage should be anything but dull.
Like many, my favorite guys on tour are the ones that make all the golf snobs cringe — the zero-to-hero types. Daly is near the top of the list because of all the great Long John stories and quotes out there.
“There are probably some things I could do to keep my flexibility up, but I’d rather smoke, drink diet Cokes and eat.”
He said he doesn’t lift weights because the health club won’t let him smoke there, and he once refused to attend a British Open dinner because, “You can’t get this fat boy into a suit.”
You see a guy like that out there making it happen and it gives you hope. If that fat slob can be a professional athlete, what’s stopping you from accomplishing your goals? I just hope I'm on the receiving end of his next great quote come April.
