Anonymous Blogs
Mr. Blust,
Mr. Blust,
I agree that people need to be accountable for their blogs, however, some people are in sensitive positions within the community, such as EMS, Law Enforcement, Fire departments, County/Municipal Governments (don't forget private sector jobs as well)and their jobs could be seriously affected by speaking out on numerous issues within their respective organizations. This is a good opportunity to let the tax payers know what is going on inside some of our government organizations (most government organizations in Beaufort are run very well and are open and honest with employees and citizens, but there are a few that are in dire need of exposure).
Sometimes things have to be brought out into the open (Blogs) to get things recognized without fear of being terminated or harassed by employers. This is an ongoing problem in some governmental/public service organizations within Beaufort County, and the blogs give an opportunty to speak out without that fear of reprisal. A lot of times it is the only avenue an employee or citizen has to make their or others' opinions or thoughts known without that risk.
On a side note, the gazette does have the ability/technology to end blogs that get out of control. I just think it is important for Americans to exercise their First Amendment rights even if it hurts someones feelings. It's kind of like the television set. If you don't like what you are reading sign off or scroll over to a different blog.
Either way, I hope the Gazette keeps the Blog going.
Thanks,
Local Government Employeee
