Is it just me?

Is anyone else getting the obviously old 'developing' stories at the top of the page when it opens this evening? There are at least 4 old stories right at the top right now; one about weather and 3 about the presidential campaign, all with IP bylines. It's really weird! I know at least twice in the last week or so (this morning being one) the daily news did not appear to be uploaded by 8:00 a.m. either.

Comments

Yes, I noticed it this morning grammy.

Also, there seems to be an issue w/ doing a search for articles. I was trying to look up an older article yesterday, and there is a error on the page. When I click on the arrow for "more articles", it gives me notta.

the only ones receiving messed up news from the gazette.

Sure, some of the headlines must be a month old. The text on the pages is different as I move from page to page - even the color and print is different sometimes within a few seconds, sometimes bold. Most annoying is the scrolling of the page up and down about five times until it finally settles down.

None of this happened until the Gazette reworked their format. Happened with the Packet too (but not old news) when they changed last year, but after about two weeks they got it down pat.

BUT, it's still easier for this old-timer to read the Gazette online rather than in print, since they went with darker paper and faint, smaller print.

Make that 3 times in the last 2 weeks. It's after 6:00 a.m. and the pages haven't been updated to Monday's edition yet, but we can read about presidential candidates who have dropped out of the race coming to South Carolina!

Here's another one. There was a murder in Seabrook friday night and it has not even made the "developing stories" yet. By the time we see it it might be a week old.

We need to check the Savannah news or who's the new Friday paper?

Posted by thirtyyrsnbft - Mon, 2008-02-11 08:30

The story has been online since early morning and is at the top of beaufortgazette.com's home page. Here is the link: http://www.beaufortgazette.com/local/story/188830.html.

We have had some technical glitches resulting in slow uploading, but they're being worked on.

The address you are looking for is www.beauforttoday.com

Yes, it has an article about the weekend shooting in Seabrook, online dated the 10th of February. It's a Friday only free printed paper, but evidentally their online edition gets updated. It's a local Beaufort branch of the Savannah Morning News, as is the www.blufftontoday.com
Both of these have now replaced the www.lowcountrynews.com which was the Beaufort branch of the Savannah Morning News.

It seems as if the "Beaufort Gazette" has seen better days. Bluffton seems to be the only thing that really counts in Beaufort County anymore from newspapers to school and government operations.

Beaufort is still our county seat!

And you are my friends...

We've been working diligently to resolve the speed issues with the server (specifically) the one that hosts our blogs, comments, contests, etc., with our hosting provider.

I'm hoping we're nearing a solution as I type.

Regarding the publishing issues - that was actually a separate problem. Today's was a human error that I got resolved by 7:30 AM today, yesterday's was a technical glitch with another hosting provider. Sigh.

Anyway, I want to assure you that we're working on the issues, and are fast-tracking plans to increase server capacity that we'd already had in the works.

I appreciate your input, and your readership of our site - obviously when it's misbehaving, it affects your day, and I want to get things set right!

Best,

-chris

It's 3:15 PM. I just signed on about 15 minutes ago and EVERYTHING IS WORKING FINE, FINE! Please don't change anything from this point on!
Thanks.

I'm using a dial-up with the newest Opera browser on my old computer still running Win98.
