Allrown,
Here we go again, another new username jumping on the blog for no purpose other than to foul an election. You and Bunnytoes and his/her cohorts are really getting the job done, you should be proud of yourselves. You come off as nothing more than lowlife bigots, and even though I am a staunch Republican, your diatribes are moving me closer and closer to voting for Obama! There is nothing wrong with Islam or the faithful who practice it. There are bad factions, but they are not the norm, nor are they the majority. Our constitution guarantees freedom of religion, and I believe in our constitution! As far as I'm concerned, Obama could be a card carrying cannibalistic Celtic or Druid heathen and I wouldn't care! Yopu poeple need to get a life, and go somewhere else to try to use your hate messages to influence an election. Why not try Missisippi, they might still buy your BS!

I was almost believing it until this guy said that Obama's middle name was Mohammed...when infact his middle name is Hussien. Sorry, but these are lies, and thats sad when somebody who refuses to vote for Obama tells you that ;)

I wonder if these issues about race or religion would be as important if the candidate in question were Colin Powell or Condi Rice. They have been mentioned at times as possible candidates. I would give both of them serious consideration, but sorry, Obama is not in their league. Not presidential material, at least not yet.

A significant number of people do have legitimate questions about his background and he needs to address those concerns. If he manages to satisfy a majority so that he has their confidence, he may have a chance. This is what the polling process is about. It is a refining process. Only the stronger candidates will win.

egret,
You said it, Obama's not in the same league at all! Powell is in a league of his own, and has no desire to run for President, nor has he held any other elected post. Condi Rice is a minor leaguer at best and has no experience as an elected leader at all. I guess that leaves the major league to Obama!
Good call!

I had fully intended on voting on OBAMA until I received the e-mail that I forwarded to the paper. Now I'm totally confused, but DO know the rest of the voters deserve to feel & know the same that I do. It would have been much simpler to not click on that link & read about his church ,but I DID & as an AMERICAN it has changed my mind.

Talk about who needs to get a life & who is a name calling low life.I do not blog to fight, but it seems like there is ALWAYS somebody ready to fight no matter what I put= why you don't see my name in the blogs constantly. If I want to watch wrestling I would go to the fights & this seems like only a fighting match. Your D.A. doesn't even like OBAMA,and yet your boxing gloves are on & you are name calling before you even checked out any facts.
Some fight over grammar, some over capital letters, some fight & nobody knows what they are caring on about-bad day at work? whatever.
PLEASE GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT BEFORE YOU JUMP MY BLOGS WITH BS ACCUSATIONS!

All this Obama stuff is nothing but BS - all of it. Internet crap forwarded around by the clueless designed to mislead the ignorant.

Maybe the BG needs to have a USER test. . . BEFORE you get a user id.

BS or not?

They present you with 5 questions, easily researched on the internet as all being bs, and you have to get 4 of 5 correct before you can sign up. This just wastes bandwidth and space on the blog page for more interesting topics, like which movie Poppulse is gonna see this weekend or what celebrity decided to freak out or die this week. Or even what restaurant Shadows made it to this week. . .

Believe it or not I used to have some discussions with some of the other bloggers on topics that have more depth than the restaurant that I ate in. Actually, I mentioned the restaurant in the context of a discussion about the quality of restaurants in Beaufort. There was a time on this site when some bloggers actually discussed travels and experiences in places like NYC. I remember one very pleasant discussion about cigars, brandy, and a carriage ride through Central Park. But that doesn't really matter anymore, like most things on this site.

Serious and/or interesting discussions became difficult with people like "Lisa2/Luther" and "scnative" who would "pop" in with their repetitious quotes and attempts to disrupt the discussions. As a result, many of the bloggers who were involved in such discussions grew tired of such nonsense and have discontinued their participation on this site. What was lost was a wealth of information and/or expertise that was given freely for the taking by of all of us.

Some of us have simply gone with the flow and have pretty much given up on having such discussions. I have resorted to discussions about squirrel-people, etc. for mild entertainment, but even that seems to invite the same few disruptive bloggers with their simple remarks and tiring use of quotes.

Sure, some of us from time to time have engaged in verbal sparring with these individuals, but even that becomes boring because they pretty much say the same things over and over. The topics that are most frequent on this site are religion/Bible, restaurants, the good old days, schools, talking-points-politics, domestic violence, and gossip. There are still a few blogger that actually read books, travel, attend events outside Beaufort, and have quite a bit of information and intellect to contribute. But the number has diminished tremendously.

About the only reason that I still frequent the site is to look at the stories that are making the news. If a post is interesting or if I am in a contentious mood, I may decide to comment. Such was the case with your comment. If you would examine your participation/remarks over time you would probably also agree with my assessment of a general degradation of the exchanges.

"travels and experiences in places like NYC"

It would be hard to find a LESS interesting subject.

Lisa2, thanks for reinforcing the point that I was making to joefarrell.

As far as it being "hard to find a Less interesting subject," I think that in this case you underestimate your ability.

NYC

I'll have to agree with Lisa2 that NYC is an uninteresting subject. Been there, it was interesting at the time, but haven't found any reason to go back. Nobody is interested of when or why I was there. Unless the poster is a close friend or relative, the story of the trip is like watching a video of a stranger's vacation.

Blogs of local people, places and happenings locally get the most reads, so people must find that more interesting. Just human nature. We have something in common to share. I'm sure bloggers around NYC feel the same way and would ignore someone's trip to Beaufort.

Posted by egret57 - Thu, 2008-01-24 20:15

.....to me and to you egret57....and I'd venture to say most folks. Why do you think it is that Shadows can't grasp the concept? She doesn't seem to realize that there are Beaufort County natives who have been more places, seen more things and probably eaten in far better restaurants than she. Probably due to the arrogance that often is associated with ignorance.

Posted by Lisa2 - Thu, 2008-01-24 20:39

No doubt a subject like NYC is interesting to the poster because they experienced it. It may be interesting to someone else that knows the places well. Sometimes a post will ring a bell and have others join in. No harm done.

Shadows is a great poster for starting a blog or a topic. I don't usually start topics but have started a few. I mostly react to others writing. Kinda like the long eared hound that lies on the porch. The eyes are the only part that moves unless something really interesting goes by. Sometimes even a familiar visitor will get only a few wags of the tail. Southern roots, you know.

By the way, Shadows has been called he and sometimes she. Shadoe=ws, please give us a hint. Male or female?

Posted by egret57 - Thu, 2008-01-24 21:07

Always enjoy your posts. Logical, well thought out, and right to the point.

Honestly, I believe Shadows is what is referred to now as "gender-confused."

Posted by Lisa2 - Thu, 2008-01-24 21:29

Wow egret! I don't think that at anytime I have described my trip to any place. If you would bother reading the comment to joefarrell above you will see that my comment was about the service, price and food in a restaurant that I happened to eat in while in NY this past week....and it was in the context of several comments both unfavorable and favorable about restaurants in Beaufort and I believe HH.....those would be considered local wouldn't they?

Actually I think that you are wrong about MOST people not being interested in what goes on in the world outside Beaufort. But obviously some aren't interested at all. That insular and protectionist attitude is why Beaufort is in the mess that it is in....the attitude that nothing that happens outside of Beaufort could apply to Beaufort and/or affect Beaufort.....always reinventing the wheel.

Many Beaufortonians don't want to hear about the outside world, but yet they allow an outsider to come in and buy their town, lose their TV station, watch their paper downsize, watch businesses including restaurants close, schools decline, and watch as the colleges relocate most of their operations. Nothing like always having to look back at things after they happen. Could have, should have, is a fitting description of such an attitude.

I guess that that makes sense to folks like you and Lisa2/Luther with whom you recently shared histrionics and decades-old experiences in the local High School. Those old pictures just make your heart palpitate don't they? Oh yes, those "good old days." News flash!! There are no "good old days." They have expired, gone, kaput, over with, forever. And if they are over with, so must be the people who constantly seek to re-live them.

You probably are right, you shouldn't care about the rest of the country or world as you sit growing older and wiser here in Beaufort or Frogmore. I'm sure that many other folks in many other towns feel the same and have little to do with anything that happens outside their town. With that attitude it's no wonder the country is in such a mess. BTW, speaking of a mess, not too long ago you were saying that the economy is in great shape.....sure doesn't look that way does it?......maybe only in Beaufort, what's left of it.

.....Little?

Posted by Lisa2 - Thu, 2008-01-24 22:30

Awfully quiet while you were gone. I can tell from the tone of your post that you must have been to NYC. Welcome back to God's country. Stay awhile and relax.

As for the economy, it is like the weather. Be patient and whatever you want will happen. My investments still look good to me. You must believe the national media who reports only the bad news. The Dow average when I started investing in 1970 was 1000 and now it is over 12,000. Where is the bad news in that?

As for the "good old days", we enjoyed them and still do. Some people must not have had good memories to talk about and would rather forget. So sad. Good memories are a treasure. We are still creating good memories here for some future rehashing. Don't you have some nice memories from living here? If not, life is too short not to enjoy. To paraphrase "Love is where you find it", good times and nice memories are also where you find it. For us locals, it is here and we like to share it. Like a beautiful sunset, one can enjoy it only by looking at it.

Posted by egret57 - Thu, 2008-01-24 23:31

Sorry egret, your suggestion that "some people must not have had good memories to talk about and would rather forget" misses the mark. Some people are so busy in the present and in creating for the future that they don't have time or the desire to sit around and reminiss about bygone days. However, if you and Lisa2/Luther want to sit around in your rocking chairs and make each other happy, I am happy for the love that each of you has found.

As for the economy and me believing only the "bad news" reporting media, I just happened to notice that George II has developed a little stimulus package to avert an almost inevitable recession. He doesn't work for the media does he? There again it seems as though what happens outside of Frogmore and Beaufort rarely reaches the two of you. I guess that you were made for each other, in the absence of any other purpose.

Your failure to mention all that has happened to Beaufort such as it being bought by a developer, and abandoned by some of the local institutions and businesses, seems to fit the pattern of avoidance and denial pretty well. Oh how those old pictures must thrill the two of you.....continuing to dwell on the past in order to avoid dealing with the present and future. Pretty selfish when you consider the implications of such actions.

BTW, there is a section in today's issue of "USA Today" that discusses the breakfasts at various restaurants in 10 different cities in case you are at all interested in what goes on in the rest of the U.S. Apparently some of the people in this country are less provincial and actually enjoy reading about and traveling to other places.

As I was reading one of your comments on another thread, you seemed to make reference to Lisa2/Luther as being a southern lady. Can I assume from that comment that her operation was successful? Maybe that accounts for your sudden fondness for him/her. Next step.....as soon as she/he is up to it and after months of delay, perhaps she can finally fulfill her promise/threat to reveal the identity of UTTSM.....talk to her real nice and convince her that it is the right thing to do........after all, a promise is a promise.

wow

I am new to this site, but have lived in beaufort for 14 years. I was hoping that this was a forum for people concerned with local/national news to rationally discuss ideas and opinions in a civilized manner. It's rather disappointing that what could have simply been answered with a link to snopes.com has disintegrated into otherwise rational adults calling each other transexuals. Was I horribly mistaken about the point of the blog?

Posted by truck456 - Sat, 2008-01-26 13:36

In answer to your question....yes, the point of the blog seems to have changed since it began. I stated that opinion and my observation of the progression and/or decline above in my comment "Re: This is all - joefarrell"

This site, much like the schools, seems to reflect the community in general

Posted by Shadows - Sat, 2008-01-26 19:38

Why don't you tell truck456 how a sophisticated, narcissistic woman like yourself ended up in a third world backwater like Beaufort? Better yet, tell us why you remain? Think of the wonderful brunch you could be enjoying Sunday morning in NYC!

Posted by Lisa2 - Sat, 2008-01-26 20:16

I don't know that I can agree with that Shadows. Like anywhere else, Beaufort is a mix. I have met some of the most beautiful souls in this town, but at the same time I have come into contact with some of the most exasperating jerks, too. It's all in what you make it, I think. It would be nice if all the bloggers were able to find a middle ground on something, ANYTHING, and try and do something about it. Everything starts at a local level and I think it would be kind of nice if something could be organized through this forum that would be positive, instead of all the negativity I've seen on here.
