A lot of candidates are stopping in town.
Here's what we got so far.
• John Edwards will be at Penn Center at 6:15 tonight
• Fred Thompson will be at Barbara Jean's on Lady's Island at noon Saturday
• Sen. John Warner will be at Blackstone's at 11:45 a.m. Sunday to campaign for John McCain.

A lot of candidates are stopping in town.
Here's what we got so far.
• John Edwards will be at Penn Center at 6:15 tonight
• Fred Thompson will be at Barbara Jean's on Lady's Island at noon Saturday
• Sen. John Warner will be at Blackstone's at 11:45 a.m. Sunday to campaign for John McCain.
Obviously these Presidential candidates are catering to our working population, and that is OK since that is most likely the largest population of voters.
The over age 65, now single voters may not be able to see these people in person. Older people don't drive at night, especially alone, many no longer drive at all. Also, many older people, left with no relatives still living around Beaufort don't take their cars on the road after the repair shops close for the weekend. Who would they call for help with a disabled car? This is what happens when our younger population leaves here for "greener pastures".
I'm going with Fred Thompson, anyway, after last night's debate and after reading the very informative BBC web pages about our 2008 Presidential Primaries and the bios of the candidates.
I'm hearing from my older group of friends that they are bypassing the primaries, but intend to vote in November for President.
You can bet that Edwards doesn't give a rip about the elderly vote because he knows they see through his lies. Hmmm. I wonder whom he could be pursuing.
Edwards knows that most blacks vote Democratic every year. Penn Center, which is where my precinct is, is always about 95 % Democratic and 5 % Republican. My wife and I are in the 5%.
His has to target his attention in known Democratic areas to pull votes from Clinton and Obama. My opinion is that he is wasting his time. Blacks will split their vote between Clinton and Obama with Obama getting the majority. In Republican precincts, he is wasting his time.
Even though blacks make up only 13% of the national vote, they can swing elections, especially with the Democratic candidates. For state and local candidates, blacks make up about 30% of the votes locally.
Elida, if you and your friends are interested in voting for Fred Thompson in the general election, then by all means, vote in the primaries! He needs all the help he can get. I, too, think he's a really strong candidate, but the word about that is getting out a little late, I'm afraid...
Right, I'll keep bringing up the subject. I DO plan to vote for Thompson in our Republican primary.
The Republican Party is penalizing South Carolina by reducing their delagates by half in retaliation for South Carolina advancing their primary date?

I cannot believe this stranger has come out of nowhere and duped the American public with his flowery, lofty retoric- that they follow without question, like sheep. (to the slaughter). His machine has the weak-minded so pumped up that it is laughable. Another scary thing about Obama. We'd have to be completely crazy to let this man get anywhere near the White House.
There is a rumor going around that Obama has made private pledges to black organizations that should he become President he will pardon many thousands of back prisoners as well as push for long time sought "Reparations" for the black race to account for present and past social injustice.
At the core of the Democratic front-runner's faith — whether lapsed Muslim, new Christian or some mixture of the two — is African nativism, which raises political issues of its own.
In 1991, when Obama joined the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, he pledged allegiance to something called the Black Value System, which is a code of non-Biblical ethics written by blacks, for blacks.
It encourages blacks to group together and separate from the larger American society by pooling their money, patronizing black-only businesses and backing black leaders. Such racial separatism is strangely at odds with the media's portrayal of Obama as a uniter who reaches across races.
The code also warns blacks to avoid the white "entrapment of black middle-classness," suggesting that settling for that kind of "competitive" success will rob blacks of their African identity and keep them "captive" to white culture.
In short, Obama's "unashamedly black" church preaches the politics of black nationalism. And its dashiki-wearing preacher — who married Obama and his wife and now acts as his personal spiritual adviser — is militantly Afrocentric. "We are an African people," the Rev. Jeremiah Wright reminds his flock, "and remain true to our native land, the mother continent."
Wright once traveled to Libya with black supremacist Louis Farrakhan to meet with terrorist leader Muammar Qaddafi. Last year at a Chicago gala, Wright honored his old pal Farrakhan, who's fond of calling whites "blue-eyed devils," for lifetime achievement.
It comes as little surprise then that Wright would think Israel a "racist" occupier of Palestinians, while describing the 9/11 attacks as a "wake-up call" to "white America" for ignoring the concerns of "people of color."
Wright makes the Rev. Jesse Jackson look almost moderate and patriotic. Yet this is whom Obama picked to baptize his daughters, plus to act as his "sounding board" during his presidential run.
The candidate already has heeded his church's "nonnegotiable commitment to Africa," spending an inordinate amount of his campaign time on the Kenyan crisis, for one. Obama has close family ties to Kenya, and even founded a school in his ancestral village — the Senator Obama School.
In the bloody conflict there, which already has claimed some 700 lives, Obama appears to have sided with opposition leader Raila Odinga, head of the same Luo tribe to which Obama's late Muslim father belonged.
Obama's older brother still lives there. Abongo "Roy" Obama is a Luo activist and a militant Muslim who argues that the black man must "liberate himself from the poisoning influences of European culture." He urges his younger brother to embrace his African heritage.
Beyond family politics, these ties have potential foreign policy, even national security, implications.
Odinga is a Marxist who reportedly has made a pact with a hard-line Islamic group in Kenya to establish Shariah courts throughout the country. He has also vowed to ban booze and pork and impose Muslim dress codes on women — moves favored by Obama's brother.
With al-Qaida strengthening its beachheads in Africa — from Algeria to Sudan to Somalia — the last thing the West needs is for pro-Western Kenya to fall into the hands of Islamic extremists.
Yet Obama interrupted his New Hampshire campaigning to speak by phone with Odinga, who claims to be his cousin. He did not speak with Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki.
Would Obama put African tribal or family interests ahead of U.S. interests?
It's a valid question, and one voters deserve to have debated regardless of the racial and religious sensitivities. Thanks to a media blackout of these issues, the electorate has yet to benefit from a thorough vetting of Obama.
We have to wonder how much of the national agenda Africa would consume under an Obama administration. Of the six "world threats" Obama lists in stump speeches, at least half of them concern that chronically troubled Third World continent.
Yes, some of his African priorities are noble, such as fighting AIDS and genocide. But how much U.S. aid, resources and presidential time would he devote to them? How much is enough? If Bill Clinton was America's "first black president," would Barack Hussein Obama be our first president for Africa?
Then there is the issue of his Muslim past. Obama, 47, was raised by two Muslim fathers and attended Islamic classes in Indonesia.
He denies being Muslim, however, and says he "embraced Christ" while answering the altar call 20 years ago at Trinity. (Contrary to anonymous e-mail rumors circulating, Obama never took the oath of office on the Quran. He used a Bible, and Vice President Dick Cheney swore him in during his Senate ceremony.)
This merely raises another concern, beyond that of the controversial church he chose to baptize him. If Obama were ever Muslim, even as a youth, he would now be viewed as an apostate, which in radical Islam is punishable by death. As Mideast expert Daniel Pipes has noted, a President Obama could be the target of a fatwah.
Still, his Muslim heritage is not the signal issue before the electorate. It's his Afrocentric church, which preaches black socialism and black nativism, and his family ties to an African tribe that's fanning the flames of Marxism and militant Islam in a country once considered strongly democratic and a friend of the U.S.
"I believe in the power of the African-American religious tradition to spur social change," Obama has asserted. He also says his faith has led him to question "the idolatry of the free market."
If a President Obama's foreign and domestic policies are anything like the Afrocentric doctrine he's pledged to uphold, Americans will pay a hefty price, including those among the growing black middle class

McCain is NOT a good candidate on national security and is a pure Washington insider. We know he was in the Vietnam war but for 25 years in Congress, he has yet to secure our border, including making any effort to secure our nation after 9/11 or an expectation to know who is in our country and crossing over our borders every day. His position is opposite of what America needs for it's security. He attempted to push this comprehensive amnesty immigration bill despite opposition from the Republican base. Now all he talks about is learning his lesson and the need to secure the border with a surveillance camera while allowing all aliens to stay. Since he seems unwilling to enforce our immigration laws, he has proven himself unsuitable for the office. We don't want another "compassionate conservative" like Jorge Bush. If McCain cared about securing our border, he could propose this legislation tomorrow by himself and not tie it to any amnesty plan or backdoor meetings with Ted Kennedy. His actions have spoken loudly. He does not represent my national security interests. Same with the Huckster..he is another social liberal. Hard to imagine that he wooed the Mexican Consulate to come to Arkansas to support all of the illegal aliens while he offered them rent for $1 per YEAR...Amazing turncoat who doesn't believe in the rule of law. Lets hope Mitt Romney pulls this out. His ACTIONs have been supportive of not rewarding illegal aliens. Thompson is great too but don't think his energy level makes him electable.

Tonight I listened as the most realistic and down to earth candidate speak, John Edwards. Every word utterd came with sincerety and passion directly from the heart. He did not talk as a politician but as the average man next door.
Not once did he talk in circles or leave a question not fully answered. If you walked in undecided you left fully understanding what type of person John Edwards really is, strong and compassionate. He knows the problems that plague our country and has a realistic approach to solving them.
He is definitely not the candidate sporting the pretty smille, ranting unity and change. But, smiles from his heart and spreads real unity for all people with a direct focus on the middle and lower class population and has a plan that will work for change.
So many in South Carolina have already made their mind up and maybe John Edwards will not win this state. But, tonight I witnessed the most down to earth human being that could possibly run for such a high office, President of the United States. What a candidates underlying issues are should be the deciding factor but the past has said enough, look what Bush has done to this country.
This country can not handle someone who is popular for their smile and gift of gab but someone who can truly unite and make the changes we so dearly need, and that person is John Edwards.

I thought he did have an honest, heart-felt... yet strong approach, but I wondered when he talked about re building the system from the inside, how he plans on doing it... It's not a very realistic approach.

A quick google has reveald that all democratic candidates are getting $3000 haircuts. I knew I should have been a barber. This is absurd but the neocons buy into to all internet mythology regarding dems. And what if Edwards did pay $3000, it's his money.
I probably will not vote for him but I will continue to say that any current or future presidential candidate, regardless of party, is exponentially more qualified that the existing White House resident.

I saw Edwards last night, too. Let's just admit it up front - the man is way more appealing in person than he is on TV. He came across as strong, confident, sincere, and not quite as angry as usual. He has honed his populist schtick to perfection, and the crowd ate it up. But listening to all his pie-in-the-sky promises, I kept wanting him to elaborate, to tell us HOW he would possibly make it all happen. And when he talked about the big, bad corporations, and how they are destroying America, I kept wondering, "but what about the millions of jobs they create and the billions of dollars they give back, etc. etc...?" When he talked about the "shrinking middle class", he neglected to tell us that the reason it's shrinking is that the number of Americans categorized as "wealthy" has grown, while the number of us categorized as "poor" has stayed the same. (In other words, the middle class is shrinking because people are moving up, not down.) He criticized Senator Obama for being "conciliatory," for wanting to bring everyone to the table to negotiate, while calling himself (Edwards) a "fighter." He's packaging himself as a revolutionary, as David to the "establishment's" Goliath, and the crowd at Penn Center loved it.
If you think America is seriously "broken" and needs a complete overhaul from top to bottom, and you believe a president has the power to make that happen, then John Edwards may be your man. And he DOES have a great smile.
Isn't John Edwards the only Democratic candidate that has a southern accent?
It's amazing how folks will focus in on a person's haircut, or how he spends his own money when they are needing something to criticize. But on second thought, perhaps we all need some uninformed, less successful people to tell us how to earn our money, how to spend our money, and where to get our hair cut.

A question that has been asked in the past: Are you suggesting that none of the men and/or women fighting in Afghanistan or Iraq are Democrats? Do we have an entirely Republican military as you are suggesting? Or are all of the Democrats in the military too busy hugging trees to do any fighting?

Secondly, remember that every candidate is an AMERICAN, Obama is not a Taliban mole, Edwards is not a Soviet Sleeper Spy from Georgia (Russia) and Hillary is not Dutch. (Austin Powers, hehe). I'm a Republican but If I have a choice of a hardline Republican who cannot form a sentence, show the nads to drop a bomb (or 30 thousand) and has the personality of drunkin ambulance chasing lawyer, I will vote for someone from another party. If there is not a suitable Republican and Dr. Phil is not running then I just might vote for Obama. Why not Hillary, I know that if Obama did to his wife what Bill did to Hillary with Monica, his little butt would be in Ward 57 at Walter Reed praying for quick advancements in prosthetic groin attachments.

I should point out that if you'd taken a moment to check your facts, it was widely reported that the haircut cost $400, not $3,000. He got them on firm ground, not on a plane, and he does not, in fact, own a private jet. Furthermore, he does live in a massive house -- the most expensive in the county where it was built. But if you'd take the time to learn where he was born -- a small mill house in a rural SC town -- and then compare that to where he ended up, having worked his way through both college and law school to afford it, followed by a successful law practice, I don't see any reason why this is a problem. There is no reason to be jealous of his success -- that just lacks class. This isn't kool-aid, it's fact. I'd take a second look at who's "drinking the kool-aid" here, and double-check the ingredients.
