What the heck...

While driving along Ribaut Road in Port Royal on Saturday, I was startled to see what looked like a witch's head perched atop the Welcome to Port Royal sign recently erected at the Paris Avenue intersection.
Not exactly inviting; actually, it's the kind of thing that would have given me nightmares as a boy, like the Wicked Witch of the West and that horrid "Screaming Skull" from the movie with the same namesake.
Anyhow, I guess art is subjective, but...

I thought the same thing...probably the only time we'll agree.
Given the fact that there is very real witchcraft and voodoo practiced in the islands, it doesn't surprise me.
A wise observer told me that love or hate it, it gets your attention.
Which is the whole idea.
Being in the editorial biz and not the advertising biz, I guess that's not a bad thing, is it?
Of course, if we're playing that angle, why not have the eyes light up in an ominous red glow? Georgetown has St. Elmo's fire, Roswell has the aliens...
I've also heard that the scary mane is made of recycled tires. So, it's scary, gets your attention AND it's green.
And, now, it has a story behind it.

Don't forget the South Carolina Lizard Man.

"....which is said to stalk the swamps and back roads of South Carolina. Described as being approximately 7-feet tall with searing red eyes, scaly greenish skin, and three elongated digits on its hands and feet, the creature which has come to be known as the South Carolina Lizard Man, is truly an intimidating sight".
I didn't find anything unusual about him, he seems to fit right in Beaufort County.
Was his name Dick or Bill?
Did he have a buxom woman with him that answers to the name of Adrienne, or just another bleached out stringy blond drinking beer out of a bottle. You're right that without the buxom woman he really doesn't stand out in a crowd here.
...it is hilarious!
Just posting my observations....as the spot light on Beaufort dims. This place used to fun and interesting......until the developers and greedy politicians took over......development and nastiness came in - humor and any form of intellectualism went out. Seems to be that way at the national level as well, but I thought that Beaufort would be immune to it.
and well, it's still interesting.....and well, it's still interesting.....and OH! something else....the greedy politicians and developers will get their due over time....maybe the humor and any form of intellectualism that would put a spot light on corruption has been shouted down by nastiness in an effort to cover up. The development or in some cases, the lack thereof is a peripheral by product of the root cause. The development....well, let's just call it a parking place for the money. Follow the money and you will find the problem.
...Sea Island Parkway
Isn't it over?
"Isn't it over?" Not by a long shot......just go into town, stand on the sidewalk and look around.....you might even see some squirrel people if you are lucky.
And some old nuts for bait.
You probably won't need the "old nuts." There are usually plenty them to be found downtown......that's one of the reasons that the squirrel people come around. When there's a free event in the park, a feast is guaranteed.
She really needs to be raised much higher if she's going to be used here.
