Bluffton Skate Park
Submitted by elida987 on Sat, 2008-08-09 20:13.Beaufort County Parks and Leisure Services is designing and building a new park in the Bulkwalter area even though the park will be owned by the Town of Bluffton. Now local residents are petitioning to have this new park include a "Skate Park".
Why can't unincorporated Lady's Island get a Beaufort County park too?
Just another reason for Lady's Island to wise up and incorporate. Our Lady's Island kids deserve something too!

Why was Robert Smalls closed today?
Submitted by elida987 on Fri, 2008-08-08 17:01.There was a headline on the Gazette's opening page about Robert Smalls school being closed today, but it seems to have been removed.
Was this an error or a cover-up?

Ancestry Library Edition
Submitted by elida987 on Fri, 2008-08-08 10:54.An article in today's "Island Packet" talks about the study of genealogy. Especially interesting and generally perhaps unknown is that our Beaufort County Library in Beaufort says they also have available the Ancestry Library Edition on their library computers. The article from the Packet is:

2008 SC State Grant Projects
Submitted by elida987 on Sun, 2008-08-03 15:41.Why is there hardly any mention of Beaufort County in this year's state grant project reports? Have our administrators applied and been refused?
See www.thestate.com/politics/story/450398.html for a listing.
At least Bob Bender has gotten some money for his Estuarium in Port Royal.

African-American soldiers of the U.S. Colored Troops' of the XXV Corp
Submitted by elida987 on Tue, 2008-07-29 16:25.Major General Godfrey Weitzel, born in Germany, was a noted and valued commmander of units of the Western Army of General Sherman in the Civil War. He commanded the XXV Corp Black troops. They captured and held Richmond. Weitzel was a West Point graduate of 1855 with a specialty of military engineering.
A replay of these times will be done by one of his descendents Sunday, August 3 at the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Civil War Museum in Germantown, Philadelphia.

Crime Report
Submitted by elida987 on Thu, 2008-07-24 17:01.Maybe there is not much crime in Northern Beaufort County, but there continues to be quite a lot South of the Broad River.
Read about what is happening there - these new reports are published several times weekly.

Can all of Beaufort County taxpayers continue to provide policing for the Hilton Head and Greater Bluffton areas? Has our Beaufort Council Council members considered increasing, substantially, the annual fee paid to the Beaufort County Sheriff Office? Is it a fair amount? Why cannot SOB provide their own police?
