A memorable 2nd grade

MEMORIES FROM A 2ND GRADE CLASS

The 2nd grade was a memorable time for me. My dad was stationed in Key West, Florida during WWII and we lived in Fort Taylor on base. The nearest school for dependents was a Catholic school run by nuns. Being a Methodist, I had some things to learn.

The nuns were very strict. This order must have not evolved since the 1500s when everyone punished themselves with pain for being so evil. I’ll bet each nun had stripes on her back and they weren’t sympathetic with wayward students either.

POP: Lost!!! New PopCast!!

No major thoughts today. A few quick hits:

Just a reminder, you can now listen to or download a NEW episode of the PopCast As always, you can either find it here or to the side of the PopPulse main.

Im mad!

So for over a year now if I have wanted to purchase DMC floss I have had to either drive to Bluffton to Michael's or order it online.

Walmart has started closing down their craft/fabric section. DMC floss was the first to go. None of the other "mom and pop" stores in town carry it, even though I have asked several times and know many people who are also in the same boat as I.

So....

Consider this a warning to all the hippy, tree hugging "You cant change our town!", "Keep the big business out of Beaufort!" people.

The text messages and e-mails started late Monday night and have not let up all week for South Carolina Stingrays defenseman Rory Rawlyk.

The playful taunts and jabs back-and-forth between Rawlyk and his old teammates from the Cincinnati Cyclones began almost immediately once the teams for the American Conference finals were set.

BHS Soccer team wins again! Caution - It's sports!

The Eagles beat Stratford 1-0 tonight to move on to the next round. They will play at home again on Saturday evening at 7:00. Congratulations boys!

Another sports related note - there was a very nice write-up about Devin Taylor in today's State paper. Here's the link:

Flowers or...?

My mom doesn't like flowers. Well, she likes them, but she doesn't want anyone to buy them for her. My dad says he got her roses once and she told him never to do it again because he could use the money for something better.

Why have a holiday

It came to my attention that schools are out in other parts of the state tommorow. Would some one like to tell me why school is out and some offices are closed in our state capital and not everywhere?

What's your commenting style?

A while back, I read a great article on Slate about internet commentary. Michael Agger, the author, looked at the types of comments left on a laughing baby video. You'd think that there wouldn't be a lot of variety since the video is, literally, of a baby laughing. But it turns out that, given anonymity, people can be jerks about anything.

Not that I've noticed it on this site, but I have seen some pretty lame comments in my surfing of the web. My question is, why be a jerk?

Global Warming in our Schools

This is a letter I wrote my daughter’s school two days ago after finally having had enough.
